This could be a complete noob topic but I'm just wondering, I'm using LAN and I'm getting really low network utilization when I'm heavily using the internet (e.g Downloading games while watching youtube video's e.c.t). Is there an easy way to boost it up or is there no need, also I get about 7% Network Utilization.

Heya,

The network utilization is referring to your Local area network speeds. You are using gigabit speeds and your internet connection only uses the "7% network utilization".

100%, you will not get 100% utilization on your LAN while you are downloading games or on YouTube. It is limited to your internet speed that you have.

Also it isn't a noob topic. You will only get high utilization when you are busy on your LAN, copying or steaming large amounts of data.

So this is the maximum you get from your ISP, so there is no way it would saturate a 100Mb/s connection between you and your router, let alone a 1Gb/s connection.

Windows can only see the connection between you and your router, not between your router and your ISP, so a 7-8% utilization would be your maximum when you are only using internet resources.

When you would for example have a home storage server that uses the network, you would see much higher utilization.

My Local area connection status speed is 100mbps and Sometimes I get 8mb/s I know not that much of a boost

Are you connected to the router? so from your pc with a cable straight to the router. The amount of 8 mb/s is right for the connection speed you have to your ISP. If your router supported more than 100 mb and your pc you could have a 1gig link between your router and pc but then you would see a utilization of 1% but still. That amount is right :D.

It should work. What OS do you have? How do you mean you have the option , Does the LAN not pick up that it can be gigabit with out you doing nothing?

No it shouldn't work. His computer supports 1Gbps but his router only supports 100Mbps.

Anyway OP, it's like the other people have said. Your local connection is 100Mbps, so that is the speed you can get with computers in your house. When you try to go out on the Internet though, then you can only get 8Mbps, because that's the speed of the link between you and your ISP. 8Mbps is just 8% of your 100Mbps connection, so that's why it says you are only using 8Mbps.

If you plug in two computers and start copying a big file between then, then you should be able to get 100% link utilization. If you want a higher utilization when going onto the Internet, then you need a faster connection to your ISP (which involves a higher monthly fee).
