Auxiliary displays use very few resources.

The resolution of the display has no effect on how a graphics card performs for 3d modeling or VFX.

I think he's just asking if he's GTX 970 GPU will be able to easily handle two 1440p monitors. :)

yer, poor chose of words in the question, i was wondering if it can handle the two 1440p monitors or will i have to use 1080p ones.

AFAIK you should be fine, mate. Now, if you were talking about two 1440p monitors on a GTX 750, then you might have issues. The GTX 970 is quite close in performance to the GTX 980, so much so that people will often go with and recommend the GTX 970 instead of the GTX 980, because the extra cost in price going from a GTX 970 to a GTX 980 can't really be justified by most people. So, like I said, you should be fine. I'm looking to do a similar dual 1440p monitor setup myself with my planned build this year.

Good luck with your setup mate! :)

Im just not sure weather or not it can handle the pixel count as with cause it is greater than 3x1080p screens with just the 2x1440p screens on nvidia's website they say Max digital res: 4096 x 2160is that just over one port or over the whole gpu?

I just want to find out before spending $600-$700 (AUS) on each monitor.

I get you're concerns, but you need not worry, it should most definitely be fine.

That max res is for a single monitor, so you could have as many monitors as the GPU card allows up to a max res of 4096x2160, so 4K pretty much. So, you don't have to worry about that, to answer your question directly, it is per port. :)
