Oculus Rift DK2 build

Hello all.

I'm planning on building a Gaming rig that would be able to handle the Oculus rift DK2 (As mentioned before).

My current idea is: 

CPU - Intel i3-4130 (i3 to take advantage of hyperthreading, i5 CPUs cannot)

GPU - Radeon R9 280x

RAM - 8GB DDR3

 

Would this combo push most titles at 1080, 75FPS?

If you are building an Oculus rig; get a 970 or 980 since it has features that help with motion sickness.

i5 is still faster though.  :lol:

hyperthreading does not help whit gaming a lot. save the money and get a Pentium whit the other money you can get a 970 or 980.

My budget doesn't lend the money to get the 970 or 980.  :(

Also, I know gaming cannot take advantage of hyperthreading, but the processing lanes can be used in the SDK.

Would going for an AMD CPU (FX or Athlon) be a better use of my money? (I want more than two logical cores)

i3 is definitely more powerful than pentium, even OC'ed one. Pentium<i3<5.

yes, but for gaming you can do with a pentium g3258 and get better performance with a 970. and later down the line you can drop in a 4690K to get the fully unlocked quad core experience.

and when you want to run ubishit titles your pc is worse than xbox

@ili199, I don't have the money to put a 970 in my system. And I already ruled out the G3258. I have a dual core laptop, and its not enough for the rift. I want at least 4 logical cores for my desktop.

Total budget is around 500-550, but I already have a case, 600w PSU, and HDD, so I'm hoping to put all of that cash into the mobo, CPU, GPU, and RAM.
