Yes. Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to say "this motherboard supports Broadwell." You can't remove sockets or DRAM slots.

SOCKET LGA 1150 supports Broadwell CPUs.

Not sure on Z87 platform.

I think it'll support too after BIOS update.

^this, although I think only select Z87 boards will support it, depends on the board partners choices to release BIOS updates.

Source? I'm not sure they've even officially confirmed Broadwell desktop SKUs yet, let alone chipset support.

sorry, but your source is over a year old and already has some holes punched into it.

from your source clip:

According to a VR-Zone report Haswell and Broadwell could use significantly different electrical arrangements on the CPU pin contacts . What this basically means is that there will be bi-directional backward compatibility issues with Haswell processors. Haswell CPUs may not work in Intel 9 Series motherboards (Z97/H91/B95…etc) and Broadwell CPUs may not work in Intel 8 Series (Z87/H81/B85…etc) motherboards. The reason for this is explained by VR-Zone as:

“The most notable changes are in the V_PROC_IO connection, as it requires a 1.05V power source, VCCST, because of a new type of power supply required, and to THRMTRIP because of a slightly different chip topology.”

so far Haswell does work in Z97 chipset motherboards and the cliffhanger here

is "Broadwell CPUs may not work " so i wouldn't call it confirmed as of yet..

more power efficiency throttling.

this ^^ it's all bullshit in the air ATM.

it's still very likely that broadwell will only come in lat-top CPU's and skylake will be intel's next release for desktop CPU's.

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/intel-skylake-s-platform-specs-z170-100-series-chipset-by-2h-2015.html

Interesting to note is that Intel has named the Z170 and H170 chipsets, LGA-1151, and confirmed dual DDR3/DDR4 support for Skylake. Meanwhile, we're left to guess whether or not Broadwell will work with 8-series chipsets. That's telling, I think.

Intel appears to be sticking to a Skylake release in the second half of 2015. If we take that seriously, that leaves Broadwell with a 5-month lifespan, at the most.
