So I've been having problem with monitor lately. It's been getting worse with every day I am not sure what's wrong. It's kinda hard to describe so I filmed short video few days ago.

It used to happen only while I was watching videos in VLC player but lately it started happening even when I am browsing. I've noticed that just specific scenes in videos cause that problem so if that scene passes and I go back before it will happen again in that same scene. Resetting monitor setting sometimes helps but problem appears after a while.

Things I tried:

  • Changing VGA cable that connects monitor and graphics card (through VGA to DVI adapter that connects to graphic card, monitor has just VGA connector).

  • Changing Monitor. I tried cousin's LG W2243S and this is my main suspect because when I connected LG problem was gone and when I connected my Samsung it was back again. I didn't test it too much tho.

  • Uninstalling and re-installing graphics drivers. But I am pretty sure those aren't causing problem because it was still there when I removed driver completely.

My main questions are:

  • What is causing this problem? (I hope there is someone who have seen something like this before)

  • Is there a way to fix this without buying new monitor? (I don't mind fixing it myself or taking it somewhere to be fixed if that's possible)

PS: I just had problem that's probably related. When I press "Link" button (so I could create link to youtube video) my monitor went black. I am pretty sure it didn't turn off or activated into sleep mode because there wasn't delay between black screen and regular mode. The way I managed to get around is changing my Colors setting in Monitor properties from True Color (32 bit) to High Color (16 bit).

Monitor I use is Samsung SyncMaster E2220. It's 4-5 years old monitor.

Specs:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

CPU: Intel i5-2500K

GPU: Radeon HD 6850

RAM: 8 GB

I hope someone could help. Thank you.

Have you tried connecting the monitor to another pc to check if the problem reappears

I am testing it on other pc and it looks like monitor is broken.. When I press Link button in toolbar I get same problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NP6qPkMUAc

I am just hoping it is VGA connector or something that's replaceable. Any ideas?
