Ok so my hdd started making really noticeable scratching noises something it didn't do before.

Even when loading a folder of like 20 images I can hear it make that sound.

Could this be an indicator that my drive might fail soon?

It's a 4 year old Samsung hd103sj 1tb drive, power on hours are like close to 3 years

Generally if a harddrive makes any odd noises that is a good sign that your harddrive is starting to die and should be backed up ASAP.

Hey Frankz,

As the guys said, noticeable scratching sounds most often indicate that the drive has some sort of a problem and might fail soon. Good job on backing up your data. I would go to the manufacturer's website and download the check tool and run it on the drive to see what the problem is and eventually replace the drive.

Hope this helps!
