Hey guys.  Last weekend my friend transferred games from his steamapps folder

via external HDD because it would take a week to download the games I wanted.

However, after dragging the shared games into the steamapps folder on my HDD

and starting up steam, the games were not detected.  I tried to click install on a game

to see if it would try and detect if I had teh game files but that didn't work.

I've followed the guide to doing this on the steam forums but it did not work.

Does anyone have any idea what I should do.  Also, If anyone knows how to

have steam on my boot drive and the games installed on another could you tell

me how to do this black magic

               Thanks, CJ

Did you put the games back in their original location?

Remove the games from steam and install them where the games are, It will only change or see the path, it wont download the game again.

When I had the games installed, they were in the steam/steamapps/common folder.  Is that what you're talking about

Re install steam back to where you placed the games. then make new shortcuts. If steam doesnt show the games still then go to install then it should only make a new shortcut and a short update to find these games. MAKE SHURE YOU REINSTALL STEAM WHERE YOU TRANSFERED THE GAMES OR YOU ATR F.U.B.A.R.E.D.

Ok basic stuff. STEAM will not work the games in a separate folder or drive. they all must be TOGETHER in 1 FOLDER. So I suggest you make a folder name it steam . Put the games file in there then re download steam and also install it BACK into that same folder where the games are. Restart steam then go to the Library and act like you are reinstall the games that you transferred. Steam should re path the install and just make new shortcuts. Should only take a little bit.  I recently did this myself. good luck.

I'd take it a step further, dedicating a seperate HDD for every service IE(Steam, Uplay, Origin, Physical).
