4690k not overclocked

msi z97s sli plus

16gb corsair ram

inno3d gtx 970 sli x2

corsair rm850

2 x ssd

5 fans

nzxt fan controller

windows 7 64bit

now for my problem

if i run the graphics card on there own they are fine but if i enable sli my games crash with looping sound and a blank screen and i have to use the reset button to reset my pc

crashes are sometime in 30 minutes but other time not for a few hours

here are the things i have tried already

test ram and all is fine, even tried different ram and still the same problems

reinstalled nvidia drivers completely (also tried older drivers)

temps are fine on cpu and gpu (cpu never goes above 50 full load and gpu never goes above 75 full load)

tried different sli bridges

even tried changing the psu, was using a hx850 then went and bought a rm850

if anyone has anything else i can try please say so because im completely at a loss here and dont know what to try next.

Can you switch the two graphics cards?

If you are using multiple monitors make sure to connect them all to just one GPU.

Swap the cards around or if you did it, flash the stock BIOS back on to the cards

i think it when anything stresses it as it does it when playing dragon age inquisition and elite dangerous but also had it happen when when running the 3d mark bench

Is SLI enabled>?

yes

yes i have tried switching them, still the same crashes

only using one monitor (asus rog swift)

Swap the cards around or if you did it, flash the stock BIOS back on to the cards

i have flashed the bios so they are running the same one.

when i got the second card i checked the bios and it didnt match the other so i flashed it to the same as the first, then i checked online and there seams to only be one bios out for this card

this is the bios both cards are now running

do you think it would be worth flashing them to a compatible bios from a different brand?

No, keep the factory BIOS on both cards. I would swap the cards and see if it issue with the second card or not when it goes underload.

so after another night of trying to work out whats wrong i think i've found it and im a little annoyed i hadnt checked it sooner, i tried booting it up with just one gpu in pcie slot 2 (where the second card normally sits) and ran 3d mark and what do you know it crashed in about 2 second flat so i guess it was my motherboard all along  .  so i think im gonna order a  msi z97 gaming 5.

anyway thanks for everyones tips and advice and im sure i'll be back when it turns out that its not the motherboard  :)
