cpu wont downclock at idle

I never had this issue with my asus board but what i noticed is on this msi board my cpu is always locked at 4.6ghz with 1.27 - 1.28 volts. Since im not gaming 24/7 having the cpu downclock and use less power like these chips are supposed to it would be nice to figure out how to get this working again, i have eist on, i tried turning on c state i even cleared cmos so everything is default and it almost seems like with this board that just doesnt happen, i checked my power options in windows to make sure that was ok and its set so that minimum is 1% usage. i cant find any reason for it not to downclock when just sitting idle on the desktop any help would be great cause im a noob to msi boards and for some reason it seems to be alot more different then i thought it was from asus boards

Yea I never understood how to get that to work. I want my CPU to downclock to 1.6Ghz and run at 4.4Ghz underload but it either doesn't downclock doesn't overclock or doesn't work at all.

yup all three enabled and it never wants to downclock :( im thinking this will be my first and last msi board im not to happy with it at all, i was gonna get an mpower but i think ill be changing the order to an rog board instead

why not just go gigabyte?

yeah i tried i method i found on google but it didnt work.. other then the dragon on the board and the fact i got the board for $80 when my p8z77v deluxe died, the killer nic and the decent on board audio i hate this board.. i think im gonna be changing to a maximus v formula or something cause this board is aweful, not only is the power delivery really weak (which i half expected anyway) so i cant get anywhere near the overclock i used to have but the feature set is pretty weak to, i mean hell if the chip never downclocks then your power usage is going through the roof and your constantly feeding a large amount of voltage into the chip, regardless of cooling that cant be a good thing

i agree. as we move towards energy efficient products...we kinda expect them to work right.

oh well, learning experience i suppose, it was only meant as a temp until i can afford my system overhaul anyway.. still a bit of a piss off considering i dont know when i can afford it lol

yeah i know that one does problem there is i have a 3770k and dont plan on selling that for a 4770k any time soon its not worth it... good to know msi learned from their mistakes on the z77 platform though

yes it is good to know, and certainly no reason to upgrade thats for sure.

oh well.. im selling pretty much everything except my cpu and doing a total overhaul, i was gonna get the z77 mpower but after noticing this throttle issue i dont know what to get, im thinking an asus board again like i had before but i wanna get lightning edition gpu's and i dont think black and yellow would look to great with black and red since i would go the rog route

yeah its what i got started on but really wanted to give msi a try, might go with a sabertooth z77 with lightning edition gpu's and see how that treats me :) just have to sell some parts off first lol

im not sure yet, going with the 900 obo approach since i know ill get lowballs like crazy anyway lol

my friend was so desperate to sell me his 690 because he and I hate dual gpu's he went down to $600 lol

yeah i know its not worth near that that much but i know if i dont list it for more then what its worth i wont actually get what its worth, i dont care for shipping things i like hand to hand trades for the peace of mind, im probably gonna let it go for $700ish give or take
