contacts on the ram stick or on the mobo? or both.. becaue i don't think i can clean inside the ram slots with a erasor (or something else for that matter...

On the stick... Blow off any debris from the slot...

Do the same for the graphics card...

hey guys,

been working on this seemingly broken system, from a few year back..

specs;

mobo: ASUS P5Q-E

Cpu: Core 2 duo something... (not quite sure, any way to know this for sure without it posting?)

Psu; Antec EA 500D (have tried with a different (confiremd working) psu so its very unlikely this is the issue)

Ram: it originally had a dual channel 4gb kit (CM2X2048-6400C4DHX) but i've tried switching this with another (8GB) kit (KVR400D2D8R3K2/4G)

I dont have any other hardware connected at the momen as im just trying to get it to post.

The exact issue;

nothing shows up on the monitor (vga on a HD 3650 512mb from asus)

the power led (on the front header) blinks about 2 times a second

all fans work

lights on the power and reset buttons on the mobo light up (so it is getting power)

no beeps at all

when the pc is "on" the cpu does heat up a bit but doesn't get extremely hot

gpu stays cold.

What i have tried;

replace ram

change gpu to different slot

change monitor to second output on the gpu

remove every unnecessary piece of hardware

place the whole system outside of the case

reseat the cpu

reset cmos (replace/ remove battery)

I am really out of ideas, does this mean its deffinetly a broken board or cpu? if so, is there any way to be sure which is the problem?

Thanks in advance!

Pepe

iI think it's a broken GPU... Try booting without the graphics card...

GPU is fucked imo.

Try using the onboard and check if flickering/vga works.

do you by any chance know if its possible to use 2.1V and 1.8V ram at the same time (2 dual kits) becasue i plan on using it as a server so more ram would be great

unfortunately not... best create a thread for that in the proper section...

There are plenty more knowledgeable people in this forum...

My only advice would be checking the motherboard for compatibility...
