nVidia GTX 650 Ti Boost Bitstreaming

Go to solution Solved by dalekphalm,

I use LAV codecs for both audio and video.. they support bistreaming audo out of the SPDIF(optical audio out)..take a look here.  Simply amazing set of features for a free piece of software!

If you have a video card make sure its doesnt take the audio ... make sure the onboard audio is outputting it instead( if your outputting audio via an spdif cable instead of an hdmi cable form your graphics card)

He shouldn't have to do this at all. He's trying to bitstream over the HDMI connection from his video card, which is the way he SHOULD be doing it. That codec you linked might support this as well (I don't see why not). There is no reason to add yet another cable to his setup, if he's already outputting video over HDMI.

The ffdshow Tryouts audio decoder supports Bitstreaming using pretty much any Player, including Windows Media Player

See this link: http://www.missingremote.com/guide/bitstreaming-hdmi-hd-audio-formats-your-htpc

and this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/files/

And a guide to setup ffdshow-tryout: http://www.missingremote.com/guide/legacy/4144?232

For those prefer their Blu-ray with less plastic (and no menus) the ffdshow tryouts audio filter provides bit streaming support for almost every other DirectShow based player including Windows 7 Media Center (7MC), SageTV, and MPC-HC.

This should work with MP4 or MKV files with HD Audio as well as straight up blu-ray discs.

Hey HTPC gurus, I just set up an HTPC in a fractal design define mini (looks great) with a GTX 650 Ti Boost.  I am trying to get the GTX 650 Ti Boost to bitstream over HDMI to an Onkyo TX-NR609 receiver.  I know for a fact that this receiver supports DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby Digital True-HD.  I have installed the K-Lite Codec pack that comes with its own media player, "Media Player Classic - Home Cinema."  I have a few demos that are AVCHD and are using DTS-HD MA or DD True-HD.  They work in Media Player Classic - Home Cinema, but not in Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center.  I was hoping that there was some way to get these to play in WMP or WMC.  The videos play fine, including .mkv due to the K-Lite Codec pack, but there isn't any audio.

I really don't want to put a soundcard in, because I would be using optical anyway, and don't have $$$$ to spend on the Xonar 1.3 thing from ASUS or the Auzentech home cinema HDMI passthrough card.  My setup is 7.1 from the TX-NR609 and it everything is working great except for the whole bitstreaming thing.

Also, how would I go about configuring the receiver to play 7.1 from 2.0/2.1 content coming from the PC, i.e. music?

EDIT: I would really like to NOT use anything but WMP and WMC if possible...  Sorry I didn't include this jon.spartan

I recommend using VLC for everything, never had any problems with it. Playing multi-channel stuff from a stereo signal would probably be something like Dolby Pro Logic, like how the Wii does its surround ( not real surround, which i hate. i stay away from virtual surround unless its headphones)

Bitstreaming is controlled by the codec.  The idea is that the PC doesnt do any of the actual work..  and simply passthru all the audio data to the amp for IT to do the decoding instead.  You say you dont want to buy an audio card.. GOOD! YOU know what your talking about and hopefully u understand this! =)

Its updated very often too!

The good thing about this codec is that its supports windows directshow so it will work in WMP and WMC.

Make sure u go into the config of the 3 filters ( splitter, audio and video) and set them up correctly.

If you use an nvidia graphics card use CUVID video hardware accelleration for best video results too! =)
