Where do I get a codec?

I have a bunch of AVI movies to watch, windows media player won't play em. 

 

I know I need a codec or whatever it's called. I googled+ looked on a few diff things on microsoft's website (what a big help that was.) I can't find where to get one, so hopefully someone here can help :s

 

Does anyone know the codec/ site to download it from? I needa watch this 8 seasons of house >.<

when u install it

it becomes the default player

If your grave doesn't say "rest in peace" on it You are automatically drafted into the skeleton war.

vlc is good cause it has all the codec in build but sucks when it comes to playing MKV files,

 i rather use k-light codec with media player classic installed

lives on

If it's not your default player yet, do the following:

 

1. Right-click on a video file.

2. Select Properties

3. Under the General tab, select the Change... button

4. Browse for VLC media player

5. Tick the box Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.

 

Might only be Windows 7 though, but should be similar.
