Do people still not know what this does!?

 

The "Rapid" function on SSDs (Samsung only, as far as I'm aware) will create a RAM disk that will write data to your RAM before it writes it to the SSD. It also caches some data to be read too.

 

This is what is giving you the 4GB/s read speeds that are unreachable through the SATA interface. Unless you're hooked up to a UPS, I would probably suggest switching it off. You'll probably not find that much of a real-world benefit from it anyway.

Rapid is only good if you're polling the same data a lot, and recommended with a UPS. Its not speeding up the drive, it's doing what SSHDs do except using a ram drive as a cache. I keep it off myself. You're not going to notice the difference in every day use.
