Hey guys,

I'm a newbie in this forum, but want to ask you guys some questions regarding on a GPU upgrade.

So I built my first ever (!) build last summer (2013 summer), and I'm trying to upgrade my PC as I'm heading towards 2015.

I thought of some upgrade ideas. Firstly, here are my current setup specs.

- Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0

- AMD FX-6350 @4.5GHz

- Sapphire HD 7790 Dual X (factory OC'd, 1GB)

- Corsair ValueSelect (4GB*2EA)

- Corsair Hydro H80i

- Seagate 1TB storage drive (HDD)

- OCZ agility 3 120GB (SSD) (Storage)

- OCZ vertex 4 256GB (SSD) (OS)

- a random Hitachi-LG HDD (storage)

- Corsair CX600M semi-modular

- Sound Blaster Z

- Cooler Master Silencio 550 case

And, here is what I am thinking of upgrading;

- CPU to FX-8350

- Single HD 7790 to CFX HD 7790 (most likely option)

- Case Fan upgrade (currently having only two for rads. no intake.....lol)

- RAM cooler upgrade (just for looks)

So what do you guys think about the upgrading? do you think dual graphics worth the money?

I would like as much advises as possible here :) feel free to ask me anything!!!

Thanks a lot in advance xD

-Dohun

What's the system being used for?

The 7790 is not working worth cf'ing.

Ram coolers are silly and just adds to the noise.

Where are you shopping/located? Budget?

This belongs in the New Builds and Planning section. I'm moving the thread.

This belongs in the New Builds and Planning section. I'm moving the thread.

The system is being used for my personal uses, with some office works and mild gaming. As I heard from one seller who is trying to sell a spare 7790, 7790 is available to crossfire and my original card also came w/ a crossfire bridge with an available slot on the card itself. Apparently, he told me that a 7790 can crossfire with another 7790, a R7 260 or 260X.

I already knew that ram coolers are silly, but they are just for looks. But here, it seems like what you are thinking about ram cooler is a little different to what I am thinking. The one that I was thinking of getting is from Arctic Cooling, and well it's plain better to google them up I guess. It's called "Arctic RC Pro".

anyways, I am living in Korea, and try to ship everything to Korea. As for budget, I'm thinking of spending up to 150 bucks. The seller is offering his 7790 for about 80 bucks (USD).

As spoken before, I am a newbie here :) so thanks for moving this thread to where it should be :)

Sorry for bad vocab/grammar if it is difficult to understand, but hope you will understand!!

Happy New Year from Korea (GMT+9)

I would sell the 7790 and get the r9 270x.

The performance should be about the same if you crossfire the 7790.

But the best is, you can play with the 270x with full performance in older no sli/crossfire supported games.

If you want to go higher, the 280x is the way to go! ... it´ll also cost you more :,o

That seems like a nice ideas. but it takes me to the next level. 270x is not selling in my country and only the 280x. Also, wouldn't fx-6350 bottleneck such high grade of graphics card?

Thanks

According to what I've seen from loads of people they do. But I am in the process of testing that theory out myself with an even older CPU that is only a dual core (preliminary results with my gtx 650 ti are looking good). Take it as a yes for now, but I'm working on getting my own proof on GPU/CPU bottlenecks.

yes it will bottelneck in cpu heavy games like:

GTA IV, Skyrim, Cs go, battlefield bc2, battlefield 3, battlefield 4, arma 1-3, minecraft, bioshock infinate, medal of honor warfighter, crysis 3 etc.

But you will see improvements in general and some really high in some games.

Maybe you can upgrade the cpu in the next time if you saved enough money and sell your old cpu.

You can get one of those: AMD (FX 8120, FX 8150, FX 8300, FX 8310, FX 8320, FX 8320E, FX 8350)

That sounds nice. but I've got no money for both....... Do you think it is possible to overclock my processor a bit more? my current 6350.

Thanks

That's a bit of problem. Do you think over clocking a bit more or getting 8100 series cpu will help solving the bottleneck issue?

Hmm you already overclocked your cpu very high, but I think it is possible that you can overclock it to ~4,6Ghz. Don´t do it if you need to seriously increase the voltage and make sure that the temperatures are not that high.

Overclocking might give you a bit of a boost, but looking at the current speed you won't squeeze too much more out of it and maintain reasonable temperatures. And in all reality if you looking at getting a replacement AMD cpu (any series) your better off getting an FM2+ motherboard and a cpu to match. (AMD have pretty much given up on the FX line and decided to have their next lot of CPUs on FM2+).

Temps are being kept under 30 degrees in idle and under 45 in full load. (according to core temp)..

Looks like it, too. Can you recommend any good FM2+ Mobo and a CPU for it? that could be "future proof"? (although there isn';t anything like a future proof in the world of PC :D) I would love it if the pricing is around 170 bucks though.... i'm a high-schooler......

Here is one of the configs I found (older FM2 cpus work in FM2+ sockets btw-adding more configs as I find them):

CPU -- AMD A10-Series APU A10-6790K   Priced @ $100.97- $129.99 USD

Motherboard -- MSI A58M-E33 M-ATX Motherboard    Priced @ $61.52-$95 AUD

Note that any FM2/2+ cpu will in most cases be slower than an FX 6350, but the platform will give you the option to upgrade.

One of the FX and it´s fine and the mainboard doesn´t even needs to be replaced...

Thats not what I would call a upgrade.

I was in the middle of posting :P. Its about being upgradeable to a new cpu line, not the stagnant FX line (fair enough that they are ok in most things, but they are really showing their age.)

That´s a fantastic idea, but to be honest, I don´t think that someone is going to replace the cpu in 2-4years with a newer one.

Considering AMD is finally going to do a processing die shrink, I've got hopes for them yet.
