Hey guys, I'm new here (only registered yesterday) but I've been watching linustechtips for quite a while.

Well, my birthday is in May and I wanted to scout out components and prices until then to really get a really nicely built computer but I think I need help. My budget is around 1500 € to 2000 € TOPS

General Information about planned build so far:

I really would like to play my games with 60 FPS (don't need the 4K capability I guess) and play games quite demanding like Ryse: Son of Rome and other AAA games like MGS 5, Assassin's Creed, etc...

I'm thinking of getting this one for the Graphics Card:  Asus STRIX-GTX980

link http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00O11Z0H2/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3TX069Q62XQDO&coliid=I1B3UAZNBIX2WC

I've heard good things about this card and I think it is a good choice.

for the CPU:  Intel Core i7 i7-4790K CPU

But now is where I stumble. I need wifi on this computer. Is there any good Motherboard that has that included or do I always have to get it separate? And I always get confused about getting a Motherboard. Any recommendations?

Is this one any good? http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00E5YV826/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3TX069Q62XQDO&coliid=I1XIWLQZAHU9LS

Now for the Power Supply and the Cooler I really don't know what to pick guys. I always feel overwhelmed. I really need some help in these areas.

Should I include an SSD and a Hard-Drive? What benefits can I get from both?

Another thing I am afraid is getting a case that doesn't fit all. All I see is cases without space for optical drives and I'm like whaaaaaat? Is this a thing now? I really love my physical copies and I have quite a few and I would love to have an optical drive.

PC PART PICKER LINK for one suggested to me:

I will always update my topic with any relevant information and I hope you guys can help me to learn more and build a great machine.

Make a PC part picker link and it would show you incompatible parts. As for DVD drives, most games do not require a disk anymore and you would find better deals on Steam or origin. Go with a separate Wifi card like the asus AC wifi pcie adapter

As for SSD vs HDD

Advantages of SSD,

Faster

quicker boot times

quicker game loading times

Silent

Cool

Disadvantages

Costs Way more per GB

Advantages with HDD

Much cheaper per gigabyte

Much higher capacities up to 6 tb

Disadvantages

They make some heat

they have a spinning platter and you will hear the hard drive

They are slower

Keep on mind getting a SSD would not get you higher FPS in games

As for graphics cards

a gtx 970 would be good for 1080p and 1440p

and the gtx 980 would excel in 1440p and higher gaming.

@jnmbhj said it perfectly regarding the SSD. Personally, I'll never get another computer without one, and anything that runs, will run off the SSD.

I'd suggest getting a WD Green for storage, and as large of an SSD as you can; MX100 512gb are actually very reasonable. I'd get that.

I see you've selected the GTX 980, have you decided what monitor you'll be running?
If it's a 60hz monitor it might be better to get a GTX 970. Not only is it cheaper, but later on if you find you need more horsepower you can add another on the cheap as it will be older.

There are loads of cheap, really good power supplies out there like the EVGA G2 and some Silverstone Striders. Check out www.johnnyguru.com he has some excellent reviews.

Other than that your build looks good.

Hey thanks for the reply :D

Can you explain more about the relation between refresh rate of the monitor and gtx970 or 980? Or any graphics card at that? Or any link useful so I can learn more about it? :D

I am absolutely horrible at explaining things, so here's a Linus video.

Basically though, refresh rate is fps. So, 30hz is 30fps, 60hz is 60fps, etc.

Yes that is an option. And I noticed the motherboard doesn't support that? any recommendation?

oh i see. so that's why you go for the overkill on the psu. if you want to get a good mobo that supports sli and that is a little bit cheaper i suggest you go for the gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI or asus z97-a(i recommend this if you're planning to oc its pretty go for oc'ing
