Help with possible grounding issue Front I/O

Go to solution Solved by Jellepepe,

It's possible that a bios update could fix it, I think more likely a faulty board though :( Wouldn't hurt to try a bios update though.

I think it turend out to be a grounding issue anyway, i connected an old speaker cable to some screws in the metal frame of my desk and the other ends to one of my pcie slot screws and a screw on the motherboard... the issue seems fixed now, though for some reason connecting my apple keyboard (the old one) via its supplied extention cable to the usb3 ports on the back I/O wont work anymore, (windows does detect something, i hear the sound, but it wont work nor pop up in the keyboard section of device manager) connecting it to usb3 on the front I/O or usb 2 on the back I/O works fine though... any ideas??, i want it to be usb3 because of the usb passtrough functionality

hey guys,

so i have an issue when occasionally when i plug in anything to the front I/O (corsair 450D) the whole system will freeze (nothing responds, monitors freeze, hdd light stays off and fans stay on normally (don't rev up))

The back I/O is completely fine.. also connecting a usb device with a non-metal outer shell thingy wont freeze the system (i've tried this a thousand times).

now after searching around on some forums it is most likely a grounding issue. but i don't know how to fix this...

i don't think it's the case because i've switched cases to test this and it also occured on the other case. while the system in that case now doesn't have the issue

so my question is, is this indeed a grounding issue? and if yes, how do i fix it?

Thanks in advance,

Pepe

As you've ruled out the case itself and it's I/O and cables, I'd point the finger of suspicion at your motherboard. Assuming it's a USB 3 header you're using, do you have the USB 2 adaptor that probably came with your case? If it works ok with USB 2, I'd say faulty motherboard.

hmm i didn't get a usb 2 adapter so i can't test that immediatly, but as the same issue occured with the usb 2 headers on the oher case i tried i think it must be the motherboard then... (could this issue be in any way solvable with a bios update? havent updated the bios since i got it...)

nvm... works now... just had to unplug and replug everything on the back I/O and it worked again.. (not sure what was the issue...)

i think it's still the motherboards fault though as it apparently doesn't ground to the case sufficiently?
