I would go for tablet since most android games are touch based and I don't play that many. And the tablet is better for browsing, watching video.

But that is just me.

Pros of the Portable:

  • Smaller than the tablet
  • Handheld
  • Controller is good
  • Analog stick to control mouse cursor - something I personally like

Cons of the Portable:

  • GameStream games run at 720p (you can set them up at a higher resolution but you have to do this manually every time).
  • Bulky
  • Weird shape - hard to carry around in a bag
  • Typing is difficult since you generally need to use the touchscreen

Sig under construction.

Hello, i am currently looking for an Nvidia shield product however i cant decide between the portable or tablet. If you own one of the devices would you recommend it? pros? cons?

i got the tablet for pc streaming, I loved it for everything exept pc streaming because it scaled it down so i couldnt read text.

I contacted support but got to annoyed when they couldnt fix the problem after like 4 tries so i just returned it.

Tablet. Because you can only use the portable as a gaming-thing and you can use the tablet as a real, functioning Android tablet. If you get a good stand like the JASmini from Cooler Master, you can wirelessly pair an Nvidia controller to the tablet. This makes a ghetto Nvidia Shield with a bigger screen. (Not handheld though).

Linus' video had a great comparison in it too.
