Will the Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 fit into my Alienware x51 r2. It's 10.5 inches long because I've heard people taking out the rear fan to make it work and any advice helps.

Thanks

What is the exact model your looking at? Because there are ITX versions that are designed to fit into computers a lot smaller than the x51, and they perform the same as the standard gtx 970's.

It is the standard reference card. It is the one manufactured by Nvidia.

Those are a bit overpriced, gigabyte is 1 brand you could go with, but there is also this as an option (msi seems to have dropped their version-its no longer on their website):

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-970/specifications

There are the specifications for the Gtx 670 and the Gtx 970. The 670 is what originally comes in that case, they both have the same thickness exactly according to that website.

$349 USD

That is a link to Newegg with a superclocked evga rear exhaust card. That has the SAME exact dimensions as the card that came with your case. So it SHOULD fit, it also spews the exhaust out the rear, I imagine you were going for the reference cooler to keep as much heat out of the case as possible.

That is another EVGA card, I checked the dimension and the Gigabyte versions are all thicker so I would not be able to tell you if they would fit or not. But those other cards are the same length and thickness so you wouldn't have to remove any fans and they also exhaust out the rear to keep the heat out of the case as much as possble saving you the necessity to play surgeon and frankensteining your card.

Thanks but the problem is the width of the card. My current card is 4.4 inches wide, while the Asus Geforce GTX 970 DC Mini is 4.8 inches wide. The Alienware x51 uses a special type of cage for the graphics card.
