Why should i spend more for about the same amount of SSD space?

trainergames

I have been working on getting my upcoming pc build just right and right now i am trying to decide on the SSD.

A lot of people say to get a Samsung 840,but there are SSD's that are up to $60 cheaper.

Why should i pay uo to $60 more?

Here is the Samsung.

Here are 3 other drives i am looking at.

If i remember all 3 brands were well known and trusted ram makers, and i think PNY was also a trusted GPU maker.

Because they arent as fast and dont last as long, treat them like GPU's, would you get a PNY Card (Blower) or a Windforce cooler?

A reference PNY card vs a windforce card isn't really that much different in terms of performance and longevity. This is different to the AMD reference coolers versus the aftermarket coolers since the AMD reference cooler is pretty terrible.

I don't need to have the fastest unless it will give me more FPS in games.

How big is the difference if life of the drive?

Because i have a OCZ Agility 3 60GB,that i started hearing bad things about the life of it after i bought it,yet i have had it 2 1/2 years and CrystalDiskInfo says it is at 97% life,i am only upgrading from it because i can't stand only having 60GB for the OS drive.

The speed of an SSD, given there are no problems, won't affect performance in games.

You only have to be anal about speed if you shove lots of files around, or large read/write operations like recording/hi res images.

Otherwise you won't feel the difference between SSDs, and reliability is the most important.

What about the difference in the life of the drives?

You just want an SSD that can handle more write cycles, and doesn't fail prematurely.

Generally speaking, later models of SSDs are better.

Well i heard about a lot of premature deaths for my current OCZ Agility 3 60GB(after i bought it),which after 2 1/2 years has not even lost 5% of it's life according to CrystalDiskInfo,it has 9.68TB of reads,7.46TB of writes, power on count of 254 times with 21,294 power on hours.

So as long as it does as well as my OCZ i will be happy.

There will always be the unlucky ones who have their SSD arrived dead or has a short life.

Newer drives strive to improve on reliability so that there will be fewer 'unlucky ones'

There is no guarantee you won't get a bad drive no matter the improvements.

Do you think for what i am wanting, should i pay more for the Samsung over one of the other drives?

If you're in a pinch its fine to go for something like that Mushkin Chronos.

Well i am not exactly in a pinch,it's just that i am trying to get the best system i can within my budget,if i can spend a little less on my SSD,i can get add a new wireless card to replace my current crappy one, which i would otherwise reuse.

The wifi card is crappy because the router is about 30ft-40ft away, yet I am getting 1-2 bars.

Then you have a reason to get the cheaper SSD.

Ok Thank you so much for the help.
