killer vs Intel?

Go to solution Solved by QueenDemetria,

In what way? (Please say explosions!)

In order from lower to higher voltages:

Gets warm, stops working > small "pop" and some smoke > possible visible spark and more smoke > Large pop, large spark, possible damage to the devices casing, and smoke.

If you have a sudden urge to watch things get over powered, watch Photonicinduction on Youtube. He does a pretty good job at wrecking electronics(quite entertaining).

I am wondering what the real difference is between a killer 2200(?) Or whatever is in the z97 gaming 7 mobo and whatever Intel model is in equivalent boards. I've seen a few people say either way, but it seems to me like the killer would be better when I'm gaming because it sorts it out from other things to give you a boost.

Comparable, intel is regarded as slightly better though because it's reliable, afaik.

I have owned a few Killer products(like the GT70 that I am typing on with the Killer e2200) and they have been very hit and miss from my experience. My GT70's chip has been fine, but I have experience too many issues with other boards with the e2200 integrated. Sometimes the speed is slow, sometimes packets drop, and sometimes it just flat out doesn't work(especially on MSI boards). I have had some problems with Intel NIC's, but not nearly as many or as bad as Killer NIC's, so I would recommend getting and Intel based motherboard(as in the NIC), or even get Realtek if you have to(because they aren't as bad as they used to be).

Also, not super relevant, but it'll let you guys laugh at me. I have centurylink internet. (Ha!) Poor me. I'm changing soon, to charter. Much faster than centurylink.

I feel like this will be a bit of an unanswerable question, where no side is really better, you just go with what you have. I may just stick with the killer, if I have issues with the prioritization, can I just turn it off entirely?

I have Centurylink too, I get 2mbps down and .5 up(*cries*). I'm just glad that I have some form of internet lol(I grew up with Dial up, so I know just how slow internet can be).

Well, in the event of a Killer card acting up you can do two things:

  1. Download a driver from Qualcomm and convert it to a Qualcomm chip (since Qualcomm is the manufacture of Killer's chips, the driver will work).
  2. Disable your onboard killer NIC in the bios and get a PCI/PCI-e card. There are many Intel NIC's available, but even cheap Realtek based cards have been better from my experience.

This is assuming that you are having issues. If you aren't, then there is no need to fix it :)

Lol, yeah I get 800 kilobytes download and 125(?)ish up. I prefer not to deal with bits, as all of everything I use for anything is in bytes and I find it annoying to change them all the time. It appears that charter is 40$ cheaper a month, and I can get 2megabytes download and 500 up. (Used at my parents)

Also, I guess I will stay with the killer nic so I Dont have to change my choice for mobo.

Seeing my speed in bytes just depresses me(lol).

It should be fine, but sometimes they can act up. Here is the guide to change your Killer E2200 to a Athero AR8161(if you ever need it): http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/guide-turn-your-killer-e2200-nic-into-qualcomm-athero-ar8161.198899/

Also realized I shouldn't become an electrician. I saw my phones battery level went down while charging. Googled a bit to soon if more watts = moar charges fastaaaaar! And then I thought, what if I just shove like, 5 amps and 50 volts into it for 250 watts of charging power. I then thought of the consequences of my idiocy.

More amps will be fine(since your phone will only take what it needs), but more volts will wreck your phone lol.
