Has nvidia stopped supporting gtx 780 and 780 ti in favor of maxvell

3rcr
gtx 780 and 780 ti are being outperformed by amd r9 290 & 290x and gtx 970 I for one would not buy high end nvidia cards again it looks like their life cycle is alot shorter than high end amd cards

No, but they've discontinued the cards in favor of the newer ones. As in, no new ones are being produced now. AMD will do the same once the R7/9 300 series launches.

theres not much of a difference between the 290 and 780, and the 780 beats the 290 in FC4

O

Of course they're being out being outperformed.

The 970/980 are faster cards than 780/780ti?

Plus, the 780ti and Titan black are almost the same card, disregarding the 6GB of GDDR5 memory.

AMD just seems like they take forever to release stuff...just like their CPUs, so I guess you could consider that a longer "lifetime" lol. I don't see a problem with discontinuing the 780s, the 970/980 preform roughly the same within margin of error and they are extremely more efficient, why would they still sell the 700 series when the 900 series is cheaper and more efficient with same performance?

Current PC build: [CPU: Intel i7 8700k] [GPU: GTX 1070 Asus ROG Strix] [Ram: Corsair LPX 32GB 3000MHz] [Mobo: Asus Prime Z370-A] [SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 500GB primary + Samsung 860 Evo 1TB secondary] [PSU: EVGA SuperNova G2 750w 80plus] [Monitors: Dual Dell Ultrasharp U2718Qs, 4k IPS] [Case: Fractal Design R5]

what I meant was driver support before the 900 series were released 780 and 780 ti were faster than 290 and 290x just because they discontinued the cards doesn't mean they should stop driver support

Who said driver support was stopped for those cards? They are still supported by current drivers, just as previous generation cards are.

Never say it's not broken. Everything is broken. Why? Because everything needs MOAR POWA!

What he means is that the card is supported, but driver optimization has stopped.
