I have never seen a real difference in gpu performance on iphone games. From 5 to 6plus they all look graphically the same. I know that it depends on the developers of games, but I cannot and think all the apple events where they show off the brand new phone and game with it. Am I right with the game developers or games look different on newer iphones?

They probably look a bit better (mind you I don't actually own one), but I highly doubt the difference is worth paying 730$ more for.

Well we don't know the settings the 'games' play at. And the Candy Crush's and Farmville's aren't exactly Crysis 3 graphics, so it doesn't matter at this point ;)

Part of the problem is that mobile GPU's haven't had any real breakthroughs. The only thing recently would be the Tegra K1, but Apple will never use that chip. The average consumer also hold back development, because generally they don't demand more.

You would be surprised. Mobile GPUs are quite powerful, considering the TDP of the SoC.

Just take a look at some Anandtech benchmarks for the iPhone 6.

Oh, I know they are powerful for the little power consumption they consume, but nobody has pushed the performance of them. They have gotten to where they are now, but no real advancements have been made.

That's because they don't need to, the A8x is about the same performance as the K1 but with a much faster cpu.

Its close, but the Tegra still beats it in most tests. The A8x will also never be seen in an iPhone, which is what OP is asking about(K1 probably won't either, but they probably will make a cut down version like the T3).

The shield is made for games, it is expected to perform for the money. The problem is that our phone have good enough juice in them, but there is none or just too little games to test that. I remember playing sci-fi fps online with my iphone 2g. So when they showed live rpg gameplay on the iphone 6/6+ presentation it was nothing new :D and it's been like 5-6 years

Apple's chips for GPU performance are actually pretty darn cool..!

For example playing games like these that have high graphics:

-Gangstar Vegas

-Modern Combat 5

-GTA

Obviously the newer the generation, the better your device will render games and compressed graphics and data.

Fact is you probably won't notice it but playing games on older generation devices compared to newer ones, the gpu will load games slower and take its time rendering it's files.

May come as a shock to some, but the CPU is also being used when this is happening. Its focusing on trying to load this game and also run background tasks for whatever you were using before you loaded the game. (Notice how if you exit the app and swipe the screens it may lag or when opening another application on the older gens).

The iPhone 4S compared to the iPhone 6 or 6+ has a lot of differences. Even the 5s!

 (64 bit archeitecture)

There is just so many differences even if you don't notice it, and too much to say to explain it :P

The Newer Generations are meant to interact with the CPU, GPU and bands to give better battery life while having a fast and fluid experience.

The rest is software really, any bugs would be because of lack of optimization until the next update or so.
