Custom liquid cooling common mistakes

In the next couple of days I'm putting together my first loop and don't want to screw it up. What are some mistakes that I should keep in mind?

Learning from mistakes is a good idea; especially if the mistakes were made by someone else :D

Do not put water in your reservoir and just turn your pump on and let it run. Let it almost drain the reservoir, and then cut it off and refill the reservoir.

Be prepared to need some additional fittings (right angles, dual-rotarys, extentions etc) I always find I need something additional that I didn't plan for in advance. Don't let it annoy you, just figure it out and push forward!
