Acer S235HLBBMII

Hey Guys,

I was searching for a new monitor and found the Acer S23HLBBMII. It looks really good and i am considering buying two of these.

Currently i'm using a Samsung Syncmaster S24B350H and an old Samsung Syncmaster with a resolution of 1440x900. Maybe I'll keep the 350h if I really need the responsetime (but I don't think so).

Does anyone has any experience with this monitor or maybe another recommendation for an 23" or 24" ips monitor around 200€.

My budget is about 500€ minus a swiftech h220 (about 140€) which would leave me with 360€. The acer costs about 180€ so it would be perfect.

But maybe you guys have a better solution.

How about getting an IPS panel, with a fully adjustable stand, like the Dell U2313HM or the ASUS PA238Q?

I never considered something like that, because I don't had anything like that and I didn't miss it. But I'll take a look, thank you.

The ASUS PA238Q is too expensive but the ASUS PB238Q looks really good. The Dell also looks nice, but i have to say, I'm not a big fan of Dell. Don't know why :).

Oh sorry, my fault... I meant PB238Q, as you mentioned.

One thing that Dell does right are monitors. I never saw a Dell monitor actually break, unless it's like 8 years old or something.. and even then.. rare.

Dell UltraSharp series uses LG IPS panels. So, basically you save for not paying the LG name.

Is it right that the Dell has problems with the older rev.-Numbers? I read it a lot and it seems to be hard getting one with a newer rev.-Number here in Germany.

So i would stick to Asus or Acer. Has anyone experience with the Acer one i mentioned in the title, because its looks sooooo good, but if the Asus is better than it would go with it.

Thanks to GoodBytes btw:)

There are two versions.

1. TN-Panel with 2ms responsetime

2. Ips-Panel with 6ms responsetime

I would go with the Ips for sure. Can you tell me something of the build-quality of the bezel?

It is really anoying that you can find reviews about the 27" model and the 23" with TN but nothing about this one with IPS.

Response time is B.S value, and they tell you. You will see that they refer in the fine prints, or next to "response time", g-t-g, or "g-to-g". This means gray-to-gray. In other words, every company has it's own way to measure response time (like the actual process). Moreover, as the fine print says, the response time is the time the monitor panel takes from changing a color to another... in this case, gray to gray. But which gray? That's exactly it... nothing says that it can't even be the same gray color (see 1ms).

TFTCentral, an in depth monitor site, shows this, and you can see it from any of their monitor review. For the sake of example, I am showing a bit of 2 extremes to show the impact more visible. The first one, the Dell U2410, is a super fast IPS monitor, quite impressive, possible one of the fastest. It was a 750$ monitor. The other one is a BenQ is a somewhat early 120Hz monitor, so TN, which what it looks like a 60Hz monitor overclocked, and not a true 120Hz.

So, lets compare:

-> Dell U2410 - true 8-bit IPS panels, 6ms response time, 1920x1200. Note: the more pixels rows the monitor has, the slower the response time, as the LCD monitor refreshes from the top to the bottom, row by row. Hence why you have tearing in a fact action scene or game if V-Sync is off. Just something to keep in mind.

-> BenQ XL2410t - 120Hz TN panels, 1ms response time, 1920x1080. So this monitor has everything on its side to be fast.

Well.. someone is lying quite a bit... I think you can see who...

And for kicks, here is a third example, ViewSonic VX2739WM, TN panel 1920x1080, 60Hz, 2ms response time.

Not very 2ms to me, compared to the 6ms from Dell.

So, it is important to read in depth review to get the real response time of the monitor.

My last post was just an answer to Emperor_Piehead, because he mentioned he would prefer the Asus over the Acer because of its IPS-Panel, but the Acer has an IPS-Panel too. I never considered a TN-Panel.

So there is the:

ASUS 23" IPS Monitor for 200€

(Pro: really good stand, IPS, In my pricerange, very good reviews ; Cons.: bigger bezel than the Acer

and

Acer 23" IPS Monitor for 179€.

(Pro: very very nice design (as Slick would say it ;) ), IPS, in my pricerange, smaller bezel than the Asus ; Cons.: Due to the design no Pivot or hight adjust, I dont know anything about the buildquality or image quality of this paticular version)

So all in all I think i'm going with the recommended Asus model. I won't buy a monitor just by its design and since everyone recomments this Asus (also in other forums) it cant be a bad idea.

Thanks to all you guys,

Love this forum :)
