Hello Everyone,

I am planning to purchase a high performance graphics card for my PC build TOMORROW, along with a suitable gaming monitor. I have two possible plans, and I hope to get some feedback and other comments on these choices, or let me know if you have any other ideas. First off, my current specs are,

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K @ 4.7Ghz

RAM: 24GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1866Mhz

GPU: PNY GeForce GT630

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i

MB: ASUS Maximus VII Hero and Front Base

PSU: Corsair RM750

OS: Windows 8.1

SSD/HDD: Kingston 240GB SSDNow, 4TB WD Green in RAID Config

CASE: Corsair 750D

MY Color Theme is RED

OPTION 1:

Run 1 GTX 980 Strix from ASUS, and OC it

OPTION 2:

Run 2 Nvidia Reference 970's in SLI and slightly OC (Ive always had a sweet spot for the reference card design)

RATIONALE:
Linus brought up in once of his videos lately that an SLI config of 970's could beat a 980 any day all day, because The 980 has only slightly better specs, and you can get two 970's for only about 20% more than a 980.

I will also need to get a monitor to go with any setup, because I am currently running 2x Westinghouse 22' LCD Monitors at 720x1050 or something like that, I would like to get a nice Gaming monitor that supports G-Sync, and is LED Backlit, and 22'-24' to go in the middle of the other two I have. The monitor MUST have dual HDMI inputs and support display port for the GPU(s). I would like to keep the monitor in the $250-350 range if possible and the GPU config NO MORE than $850.

PC HAS BEEN UPGRADED SINCE THE PICS WERE TAKEN i.e. RAM, HD's, Aesthetics.

Thanks for Reading and Helping!

Merry Christmas,

Joe

I'd go with option 2.

Dual 970's seems like the only sensible choice. It gives better performance in almost all scenarios, other than a very few apps in which gpu scaling is horrible. The only concern I would ever have about SLI (Crossfire is by far worse), would be space restrictions that occur if the PCI lanes are too close to each other, yours are nicely spaced so that shouldn't be a issue. It looks like you have proper ventilation as well, so I would definitely say spring for the 970's.

You may have a hard time finding what you need as far as a monitor goes.  So far as I know G-Sync monitors only support display port as all the other i/o options are eliminated when the G-Sync module is installed.

Can anyone else confirm or deny this for OP?

yea G-Sync monitors only have one single DisplayPort

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.
