Hello, I am curious if AMD's single threads per core are as good a s intel's dual thread per core.  I just don't want to buy an AMD quad core and get the performance of a dual core intel is what I really want to know. It seems simple, but why aren't there 4 thread cores if you look at it in a different perspective. Die size?

To my knowledge there is no way to measure actual tread performance, I think their both the same. On the other hand Intel single core performance has the upper hand while AMD tends to lean towards more cores for better performance... At the end of the day what will you be doing? What games do you play? Will you multitask a lot?

Intel has better performance per core, but with AMD you can buy more cores with less money. The FX 8350 has 8 cores for $160. Whereas the only Intel processor(s) with 8 cores is over $1000. But do you really need the 8 cores?

Intel uses something called Hyper Threading it isn't that great but it isn't that bad either, 4 cores / 4 thread are generally better than 2 cores / 4 threads, Intel has better IPC and FPU performance too.

AMD cores share resources.  In integer calculations it is a quad-core, in floating point calculations it is a dual-core since each pair of cores only has one integer unit between the two of them.  In real world performance it's somewhere between the two, more heavily weighted toward one side depending on the kind of applications you're running and what kind of operations they use.

Intel's hyperthreading can benefit, but again it is application dependent.  Sometimes you get no benefit at all, sometimes it's a nice boost.  But it's never as good as a real quad-core.

I just want a cheap and semi-future proof moderate gaming processor. I am considering buying an AMD Athlon II X4 630 Quad-Core Processor Socket AM3 2.8GHz ADX630WFK42GI and overclocking it to 3ghz

That is not modern, and not good at all.

Ideally, you want an i5.  If you can't afford an i5, get an i3 as it still has 4 threads.  Also, with Intel, you have an upgrade path for the future, you don't get this with AMD.

What is your overall budget?  Where are you located?  Do you have any components you can reuse?  Do you need operating system? Monitor? Peripherals?

You're best off getting the AMD A10 7850K if you're struggling with the budget.

Are you saying Enflics is wrong in the quote?I don't multitask with intensive apps. 3ghz at 4 cores with an r7 250 will not do much for the next 7 years at least?

I don't think anyone's wrong here, but you've yet to say what you will be using this PC for.

A PC that can have multiple chrome tabs open while playing a game like War frame at 35hz or more with not dips in fps at at least medium settings.

Quad core should be enough for that then. An i5 or i3 if you're low on funds should do you right. For gaming especially, the i5 4690k is the best gaming processor on the market at the moment.

Is that much superior to the cpu I asked about AMD Athlon II X4 630 Quad-Core Processor Socket AM3 2.8GHz ADX630WFK42GI ?? It is cheap used on ebay.

Oh definitely. The 4960k is $220 but is undoubtedly a lot better than any Athlon processor. Like I said, if you're not willing to spend that kind of money, go with an i3. They only have 2 cores, but the 4150 has many more determining factors over that particular processor. The performance per core is much better than having more of them. Or if you'd prefer more cores at still a low price an i5 3570k or FX 6300 works as well.
