I have decided it is time to build a new PC.

This is the current list I have made up. I know this is overkill for gaming but I dont care

I wont necessarily be buying from those stores but those are the parts I'm looking at.

1. Budget & Location

I'm in NZ so prices are high. Bit I'm planning on taking advantage of the boxing day sales. Looks like it will drop the cost to about $2500.

2. Aim
My main aim is for something that will run Star Citizen well. Yes I should wait but I have money now.

3. Monitors
I currently have a 27" 1440p monitor and am thinking of getting a 21:9 1440p when the price drops a bit.

4. Peripherals
I already have a good keyboard and mouse. and already have a copy of windows. I will also be reusing my 240gb SSD and 3tb HDD.

will also see if I can use my current cooler if not get a cheap closed loop. I plan to run it on air for a little while then try a custom loop.

5. Why are you upgrading?
I like new things. To be honest my current PC(in my sig) is still fine. a little slow for current games. But I just want to build something nice. Yes I could go cheaper but im not bothered. I dont rebuild every generation and plan to keep this for the next 5 or so years.

I plan on getting a M.2 ssd once they get better.

I think you should wait for a few more months to see what AMD comes out with.

Unless you're firmly planted in the Green camp.

Ditch x99, grab yourself a 4790k if you need the extra threads. Use the extra money for a second 980.

I'm planning on getting a shield so want the Nvidia for game stream.

besides the over priced mobo (go with the Asus X99-A) you need a cpu cooler also consider a cheaper case

I like the looks of the "Pro" better then the "A". I was looking at case labs so that is my "cheap" case.

I priced up Z97 and it only came up $300 cheaper (x99 = $2860ish and z97 = $2550). And I may get a 2nd 980 when it comes time to watercool anyway.

Good luck with the build =).  Make sure you grab a cooling solution for your CPU.

I should be able to use my current cooler
