Does memory speed effect overclocking a lot

Go to solution Solved by vlkn´,

even 1866mhz will be enough for 4,4ghz

But I would recommend to go a little higher. 2400mhz should be ok, if not a little overkill

Hi, I'm looking at buying an MSI X992 Gaming 7 X99 and G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400.   Newegg has a combo deal where you can save $120 buying the two together.   I also plan on getting an Intel Core i7-5820k 3.3 CPU.   Will I able to overclock the CPU around 4.4 GHZ with this RAM or do I need to invest in faster RAM?   Thanks.

I haven't overclocked my system at all and my ram starts at 2400Mhz. Not sure if that's informative to you or not... lol

CPU: 5820K GPU: Gigabyte G1 970 RAM: 16 GB Crucial Ballistix Mobo: EVGA m-ATX Cooler: Corsair H100i Case: Xigmatek Aquila PSU: NZXT 700W Monitors: 2 x Wasabi Mango (1440p)

Do you play Go/Baduk/Weiqi? I am AGA 4D.

Wait... the speed does affect the cpu overclock? Holy shit I'm stupid, didn't know that

Makes the system less unstable and can provide better overclocking.

fudge!

Yeah on X99 you basically overclock your RAM to the rated speed using the BCLK so yeah, you kind of OC the processor by doing that.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 - 3900x @ 4.4GHz with a Custom Loop | MBO: ASUS Crosshair VI Extreme | RAM: 4x4GB Apacer 2666MHz overclocked to 3933MHz with OCZ Reaper HPC Heatsinks | GPU: PowerColor Red Devil 6900XT | SSDs: Intel 660P 512GB SSD and Intel 660P 1TB SSD | HDD: 2x WD Black 6TB and Seagate Backup Plus 8TB External Drive | PSU: Corsair RM1000i | Case: Cooler Master C700P Black Edition | Build Log: here

2133Mhz Ram, declocked via memory selection to 1866Mhz, and overclocked via the Base Clock (BCLK) back towards the rated stock speeds again (or past it for a little MEM-OC also), with also a CPU overclock in place, so even with a high CPU OC in place,..you'd like some fast memory speeds (even if it makes little difference, people love big numbers)

IE: The reason to buy faster speeds is for overclocking/performance potential to be maximized, best of both worlds.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
