So I was making a plan for a build for my parents. as both there computers are starting to die.

They really only surf the web and my dad watches movies.

so they only really need a rig that will work and is cheap.

So I made these plans thinking that they will keep it for like 7 years like they have with our current PC

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/joelthezombie15/saved/1NjN

Im not to good at Uber budget builds so is that any good? They need a good bit of storage and they wont appreciate the SSD so i left it out. They also want as small as possible so i thought matx was a pretty good fit.

So is this good or can there be improvements?

At one point I was going to use this in a build for my mum: 31lPTBabFJL.jpg

In a bitfenix prodigy. It has a APU and is perfect for watching films and just browsing such :)

Eww biostar. i wouldnt trust them with crap.

the only thing i would change is the CPU, go with a AMD quad core FX series.  More cores are better for multi tasking and may help in adding a few extra years to its lifespan.

Well, im trying to keep it low budget.

Ya i just chose a random case so, it could have been cheaper. thanks though

Since it's for videos and web only, an APU would work just fine, wouldn't it?

Maybe you like it  ;)

Changed it so there are 2 RAM-sticks, since it's dualchannel.

Ok cause my dad has a stock cooler running on his PC, and he got it when 1156 first came out so at least 4 years straight and never misses a beat, just blow some compressed air through it once in a while...but if it makes you feel more comfortable that that's cool.

Since your parents aren't gaming and they want a pc to last a while, it'll be better to pour onto a better processor for overall usage. Intel is great for their faster cores.

Here's what I would do instead: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/18FR4

(and yes, I believe they wouldn't add an ssd if you asked them but the speed would be a pleasant surprise unless they're using linux.

Well that is ONE of the many problem with our current one, it is stock and it has been over heating and the system freaks out.

What is there current system? Intel or AMD? This doesn't apply to all CPU's or models, but most of the time I've found Intel's stock coolers to not really handle OC'ing over time very well at all; even just regular CPU speeds and it heats up unless you go aftermarket. I've been running an AMD Athlon II X4 620 @3.12GHz (Quad-Core, Stock speed is 2.6GHz) with the stock cooler/fan for almost 3 years now, and it idles/web browses at 30-35C normally. I've only ever pushed it to 57C when I was doing video encoding.

That's awkward for the stock intel cooler. I find that temps are still very good as long as the case cooling is adequate.

Well OK, you do have a point. Most of the Intel builds I've ever done have been in small cases, no dust filters, single fan, etc. El cheapo cases if you will, so that probably doesn't help much.

buy this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128585

the 847 cpu from intel is much faster than any APU or ATOM cpu

or the 1007U from intel

which is even faster than both of them

http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Intel-Chipset-Motherboards-GA-C1007UN-D/dp/B00D1A8094/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1371812818&sr=8-15&keywords=1007u+intel

a D2700 is at 841 points

the 1007u is at 1600 points

the E-450 APU is at 900 points

I was asking, sorry

But a 2.5 GHZ Apu is quite obviously better than a 1 ghz Cpu.

The fact you benchmark them via Points (Which is a value that is non-existant for CPU's BTW) and compare the 1007 to a notebook cpu that was pretty bad 2-3 years ago make you seem kinda ignorant.

Try just looking at the product suggested before saying if it's worse or better than another product

the 1007u is well hidden the only reason i heard about it was because Nas builders wanted something faster than the Atom cores but still low power

it seems only Gigabyte and a few small companies are selling these boards

they are quite powerful
