My friend has been wanting to build a new gaming computer and his wife wants me to get all the parts for him for Christmas. Their current computer is older and used by everyone in the house (2 adults/2 kids).

Her budget is $700 +/- and needs everything except OS.

I want to get him something that will play games descently now and able to upgrade parts in the future.

Here is what I came up with, i need to choose a case. A mid tower thats easy to build in and preferably a window

I went with a Z97 board, has everything he needs and can upgrade CPU in the future
G3258 because its cheap and performs well
The 750w PSU in case he wants to Crossfire later

Thanks for any feedback

Pretty good, but I would suggest a Hyper 212 EVo cooler, not that much more but performs quite better than the stock cooler. Also possibly an SSD? I suggest the NZXT Source S340 as a nice and cheap mid tower (note the window can easily scratch)

Desktop: i7-4790k, Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, Seagate Barracuda 3TB, 2xR9 290 Vapor-X's (1 working atm), Asus Z97-Pro, NZXT H440 White, 16GB G. Skill Sniper RAM, NZXT HALE V90 850W.

Laptop: Samsung Chromebook 11.6"

Phone: 8GB Galaxy S4

Looks good! An SSD would be the icing on the cake though. I recommend the Antec 100. Good case (no window) easy to build in, nice and cheap.

Thanks for all the feedback

If i could somehow get an SSD and a case and still be in budget would be great. But if not it wont be a big loss cuz he's never had one and doesnt know the speed difference lol

Im going with this. Need to order this morning so it gets there by Christmas eve, drop shipping to his inlaws house. Keeping this a secret has been very hard.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/CbhyZL

I talked to him last night and kinda 'covertly' asked him a few questions. He will mostly be playing Diablo3 for a few months (he hasnt played anything newer cuz their PC sux) and doing the usual PC stuff (web surfing, email, etc.)
This build should be perfect for now, even a little overkill for Diablo3 and great upgrade options in the future. This should be easy enough for his first build and he has watched build videos, and we can skype or something so i can help him a little since i cant be there.

Wish i could be there to see his face lol theres nothing like opening a big box of new parts!!!
