Hi Folks,

I've wondering can I put two Asus R9290- OC- 4Gb cards in CF mode with 800W Fractal Design Newton  PSU ( Platinum ).

I have one at the moment and the power is never up 400W.

The configuration is: CPU Intel G2030 s.1155 ( planing to change with 3570K and Fractal Design Kelvin S24),16Gb Kingston low profile ram, 1SSD Hyper X, 1 1Tb Segate Baracuda, 6 140mm. fans with fan controller, MB Asus P8Z77-V, and one DVD-Rom.

I'm not planing to overclock anything.

Thanks in advance.

Ivo

Two 290x's use 727 watts under load in a system, which is probably pretty similar to two 290's (probably around ~690-700). That power supply only has a total of 720 watts on the 12v rail. I wouldn't recommend it.

edit: NVM that's in 'uber' mode, so they probably won't consume nearly that much. You may be okay but I want a second opinion on this.

edit2: this says they only use 603 watts under full load, so yea disregard what I previously said, you'll probably be fine: http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/radeon-r9-290-crossfire-review-benchmarks,4.html

Why are you planning on getting outdated hardware like the 3570k? It's not worth it at all, especially considering the fact that Haswell has drastically better performance per clock (Up to 20-30%). Get a good Z97 board with a 4690k

He already has an 1155 motherboard.

Yep, I have an 1155 board and don't want to change it at this moment. And in Bulgaria the new Z97 board with a new RAM kit it will be pretty expensive :(. For this uprgrade I'll wait to decrease the price of the parts.
I've read a lot info about this case but can't find an OK answer. Some said that 800W is OK other 1000W is OK. Actualy I'm not playing a lot of gamse, most SC2, Unreal, Halo and  a little BF( I'm from the old generation gamers:) ).

The question is, do you really need two 290's for those games? Absolutely not. A 3570k and a 290 can max out just about every game at 1080p 60fps.

The 3570k isn't that outdated..

Where'd you get your numbers? Haswell has a ~15% ipc improvement at most over Ivy from what I've read.

I've read several articles that mentioned up to 20-30%, or maybe that was over sandy bridge?

Hmmmm. Let me try to find those sources
