Hey guys,

I'm looking to build 2 computers.

I live in Australia so prices are going to be in AUD.

__________

For the first one I'd like HD gaming on a 4k monitor and have support for another 1 or 2 1080p monitors for the developing side of things... i.e. 3D modelling and animating, video editing and photoshopping large files.

I'll call this one

So I've been researching a bunch and playing around with component ideas for

I have a budget of $4,500AUD

I'd like to get the ASUS X99-A motherboard - $365

http://www.cplonline.com.au/asus-x99-a-atx-motherboard-x99-a.html

and the Intel core i7 5820k processor - $469

http://www.centrecom.com.au/intel-core-i7-5820k

to run this bad-boy.

Are these solid choices or is it worth putting in more money to get the next level up?

For RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 4x8 32GB DDR4  - $699

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=28793

Pretty set on that choice, really need a fair amount of RAM for rendering and multitasking. I'd also like to have the ability to upgrade that further if I need to.

For my graphics cards I'm thinking dual ASUS GeForce GTX 980s - $865 each - $1730 for both

http://ijk.com.au/branch/ijk/product_info.php?products_id=150532
in SLI to be able to max out games at 4k and have another 1 or 2 monitors connected with skype/facebook or whatever else open at the same time. If that's complete overkill and dual 970s in SLI will do the job, let me know please.

For my storage I'm going for:

A Western Digital 4TB black HDD - $279

http://ijk.com.au/branch/ijk/product_info.php?products_id=146574

And an Intel 730 Series 240GB SSD - $169

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=27034

For the case I really want a red and gold xpredator case from Aerocool but I'm not sure what size to get.

There's a mid-tower: http://www.aerocoolaustralia.com.au/index.php/chassis/pgs/pgs-b/36-case/pgs-b/917-xpredator-x3-rg-edition-information - $149

And a full-tower: http://www.aerocoolaustralia.com.au/index.php/chassis/pgs/pgs-b/36-case/pgs-b/922-xpredator-rg-edition-information - $189

For the power supply I'm really not sure what would be enough to power this beast and I'd like some blue LED fans.

If it can fit it I'd like to put in this fan controller: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9_511&products_id=29463 - $59

If it fits in the budget and the case maybe some water cooling too?

Components I've chosen so far add up to $3,711AUD minus cases and stuff in previous paragraph.

__________

For the second one I'd like to make a more home-theater sort of thing with a projector that can also be used as an everyday computer supporting a 1080p monitor and being able to run games at comfortable speeds (LoL, Dota, Smite at high graphics settings with good fps), but mostly being able to run movies on a projector and surround audio.
I'll call this one B)

I have a budget of $1,500AUD but can stretch to $2,000 if need be.
(Bit of an Avengers fan if you didn't pick it up. ;) )
Other than that, I'm really not sure where to start with this build so I'm open to any and all suggestions.
__________

In terms of time-frame: I'm looking to build B) early next year after I get back from holidays and use that fairly extensively for games and movies while saving up for   and building it probably middle of next year. (Not sure if that changes anything or helps you out, but just thought I'd add it in.)

Thanks.  :D

Do you need a monitor? If so I/you might have to turn down some parts.

dude, that case is horrible. in my opinion at least.

and if you are building it middle of next year plan your build then.

Aesthetically or with features? If you just don't like the look of it that's one thing, but if there's something inherently flawed with it can you let me know?

You have any suggestions?

Well just wait for when you are going to build your pc, There are already benchmarked leaked for the new GTX and Radeon.

Yeah I do, but I was just going to keep them out of the actual PC build and look at them later. I currently have a monitor I can use, but what I get will largely depend on what's available at the time.

i really dont like the look and they dont have many features or great build quality for the price either, i wouldnt buy them.

i have done this mistake myself, buying a 'gamery'-looking case and then regreting it afterwards and buying a very sleek looking case.

Then you are probably fine with that list, you could change the OS to Win 8.1 PRO to cap your budget, but that's up to you.

Would you please explain your reasoning behind the parts? As someone new to this it's just a bit hard to see where you guys are going with it.

I've had a look at reviews and stuff on youtube, over-all the response to it was positive. I think I'll see if I can find one at a computer market or store somewhere to check it out for myself. Otherwise I'll have a look at other stuff.

I really like the look of it, I guess everyone has different tastes.

I went with a 4TB HDD because I'm going to have a fairly big Steam library and video files uncompressed are huge, I'll need the space for rendering as buffer at least before compressing.

Going to need more RAM, multitasking and editing uses a bunch.

What advantage does the Deluxe have over the A for my build? Raw power? Features that suit me better?

Won't need an optical drive, all the programs I use will be downloaded.

By the time I get to making this Windows 10 should be around so I'll probably get whatever is the standard version of that, I shouldn't need a professional OS.

You can change the storage to whatever suites your needs. Are we talking about 32GBs of RAM or 64GBs?. Deluxe has a couple features over the A, Deluxe has 2 Sata 6GB/s extra ports, 1 SATA Express extra port, and some other extra features, it's great for overclocking also.

32 with the ability to upgrade later, preferably without needing to completely replace the RAM I'll already have.

What can I do with the extra ports?

Add a sound card, more optical drives or storage (SSDs/HDDs) if you ever find yourself upgrading.

How about this board? http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=29814

Would it work better with the GPUs you suggested? Especially for over-clocking?

Keep in mind that's an EATX motherboard, it can withstand 4-way SLI which isn't recommended, 2-way SLI is perfect, 3-way SLI is not worth it, 4-way SLI ain't needed. It has much higher RAM capacity 128GB to be precise, which I don't think you will ever use. I honestly feel like going for this mobo for gaming, and light rendering/video editing is overkill and not needed at all. But regarding your question, yes it will be great for overclocking. That doesn't mean the X99 Deluxe isn't great for it either, but remember that when choosing for a mobo you need to take into account what features you will be, and will not be using.
