EVGA SC GTX 980 HOT

Rohan.Le.Roux

Hi, was just wondering if my situation is normal. I currently have a GTX 980 set up in my system (a 250D), with optimal positioning near an intake vent. The GPU idles at 50 Degrees celsius (GPU Clock @100MHZ~Usage Very low), and boosts up to about 75 degrees celsius max when playing games like Far Cry 4. This causes the 0 decibel fan design to become somewhat obsolete, as the GPU is constantly running at temps near its hairline. Was just wondering if these temps are considered 'normal', or if I should rather head down to the store and swap it out for another card?

Thanks!

It's normal because an ITX case always has higher temps then something like an Enthoo Pro.

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

Yeah I'm aware, but is this still the fact in the 250d, which essentially places the GPU intake fans right next to a massive opening? Or is the GPU temp also dependant on airflow towards the PCB (back area)?

It maybe because the fans aren't spinning when it's idle , you can change the fan curve with evga precision , msi afterburner ...

Also the "you may be able to play simple games like dota2 without the fans even spinning" in 0db mode is for optimally ventilated cases and benches

Ah ok, that makes a lot of sense- would you say that ~70 degrees under load in games like FC4, BF4, etc, is normal, however?

So I'm all good in that department I'm assuming.. How hot do your 980s run in games?

top card around 70-75c

Bottom card rarely peaks over 68c.
