Not my first build but only my second.

getting in the hype of PS4 last year, i preordered MONTHS ahead of time, couldn't wait for watchdogs and the crew. Both games got pushed back, had a ps4 sitting for over a month before i bought madden just to play it. Then got watch dogs and was not impressed. PS4 sat for months just being used for netflix. Decided to sell it and build a rig instead of gaming on my laptop.

Case: Zalman Z9

CPU: I7 4790k

MOBO: gigabyte z97 gaming 7

first mobo i had was an asus z97-ar and had no problems for the first 2 weeks. Then randomly it wouldn't post, tried everything i could to get it to post, contacted asus and they told me to bring it back for a replacement. New MOBO wouldn't post either, this time a different code, so I returned it again and picked up the gaming 7. I never had issues with asus before but must have been a bad batch or something.

PSU: Corsair cx600M

Ram: Crucial ballistix sport 8gb (2x4gb)

I had the ram sitting around so just reused it.. Might upgrade might not

SSD: Crucial MX100 256gb

again had this in another computer and was running windows 10 tech preview (still am)

GPU: asus radeon r7 240 low profile

had this in another computer and used it for now as well.

Future plans:

  • I added a r9 270 on my christmas wish list so lets see if that happens.
  • RGB led lighting with sound activated controller
  • Cooler master hyper 212 evo
  • additional SSD
  • 2TB Mechanical HD

The gpu is seriously underpowered for that build... you should have bought an i5 and used the spared money to get an R9 290 or 280x at the very least going. That gets number 1 on your priorities list my friend, I wouldn't settle for a 270 with the other components being so powerful. It would bottleneck your whole system hardcore. Also, when doing a build log we expect to see some pictures :) it would be great if you could get some on here. In this order I'd get:

a GOOD gpu ;)

2tb hdd

hyper 212 evo

second ssd if you really want one (not sure why you'd need 2 though ^^)

Yes the r7 240 is junk i know, it performs better then integrated graphics right now. I didn't stop the build due to not having money I stopped their because the GF wanted christmas presents idea's. I gave her a few graphics card options and the 270 was the cheapest of them so I just ASSuMEd she would get me that one I think i would be happy enough with a r9 270 but we shall see. I don't plan on gaming over 1080p and i dont NEED ultra for everything.

Currently I play starcraft 2, diablo 3, ragnarok (yea i know its old) and will have the crew soon. Maybe pickup battlefield 4.

I would say i5 instead of i7 and a R9 280x. and change the mobo from what you have to a MSI Z97 Matte. You may also want a 1-2TB HDD. and Probably a CPU Cooler rather than stock.

The price difference between the i5 and i7 wasn't large enough for me to not go with the i7. As mentioned in my last post, the r9 270 is what I THINK my gf will buy me for christmas as she wanted to buy me something for the build as a christmas present and the 270 was the lowest priced graphics card i sent her in a list. CPU cooler was also added to a christmas list.

I get yelled at for never knowing what to put on a christmas list because i usually just buy myself what i want when i want it so I am being nice and waiting for those things.

I do plan on putting a HHD in the case but am in no rush since i have a 4tb nas i store all my documents and such on. Only thing on the SSD right now are the games i play.

If you're only gaming, the extra money isn't worth it. If you're doing things like video editing on a regular basis, then yes, it is worth it.

waffle waffle waffle on and on and on
