I have talk about building a gaming desktop in the past on this site, but ive decided that it would be better to get a new laptop for school use but that can be use for playing World of Tanks. I just need some recommendations on one to get. I was looking at a couple of HP laptops but one of them had 1x4GB and 1x8GB ram sticks in the same computer and it just seems weird to have that combo. the only things that I really have as a guideline for what I want is a backlit keyboard, at least an Intel i5, about a 15 in display, and below $900. I don't really care about the brand, but I want windows 8.1 if that is all possible in the same laptop.

It looks really nice but it is a little bit much. My parents are trying to get me a new pc for Christmas and their budget is $500-$600 but if I put in money I can get a better computer.

Gaming laptops are sort of expensive. You'd get a greater deal of power for the same price if you just built a PC. But if you insist, I found this on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152570 and it sports all of your requests in your original post. The reviews are pretty good, too.

my original plan was to build a desktop but my laptop is getting old and frankly it is a piece of crap. im looking for something that will allow me to do game as well as other stuff. I just watched Linus's review of the Y50 and im worried about the issues he had with scaling. has there been a fix for it yet? @Dr. Moose

Not sure, I don't own one. Maybe ask on the forum? There's lots of people here that own a Y50. BUT, there is a different model that offers a 1920x1080 display is place of the 4K one. It would probably yield better performance and you could save some money, while giving up all those pixels. IMO, 4K isn't a reliable option yet, so I wouldn't buy one. But like I said, ask around. Maybe do some Google research.
