A buddy of mine is willing to let go of that monitor for pretty cheap (sub $600) and I was wondering if you guys thought it was worth it? It's brand new in the box and still has it's warranty. I know it's a TN panel, which isn't the best, but at the price it's at is it worth it to pick up? I run two 290's in my system, so I'm not worried about games all that much, and I plan on mostly using the extra space for productivity. What are your thoughts?

IDK why he would want to sell it "brand new in box", sounds pretty fishy to me.

Anyways if it's legit, $600 for a 24 inch 4k IPS display is a pretty good deal, but the pixel density at 24" 4k is pretty high, so you're going to have to sit pretty close to your monitor unless you want to use crappy Windows scaling.

The monitor uses a true 8-bit IPS panel.
However, it is a MST (Multi Stream Transport) one, meaning that the monitor draws half the screen on one frame, and the other half on the other frame (or uses 2 chips to render each half), regardless, it will look like V-Sync is off all the time. The computer will see it as 2 monitors. You may see vertical tearing in games and fast paced movies.

Dell has released a new 24inch 4K monitor for 600$
The Dell P2415Q: http://accessories.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=860-BBFF

While we have to wait for reviews, it doesn't seem to be using MST. But again, we have to wait for review.
For that price, I would get the P2415Q instead, especially that you can probably negotiate the price a bit with Dell, and have it a bit lower.
If you can't wait, and want it now, for the same price (or less if you can negotiate a bit) you have it new, and possibly not using MST. And if it does, well you have genuine new, and you still saved a bit.

I agree with GoodBytes.  There's not much reason to get the UP2414Q with the P2415Q out.

Unless it's really cheap.

I still feel bad for the people who got up2414q's for like 700 bucks and thought they were getting a good deal

Well, monitor technology on the desktop space has always moved at snail paste.

It is the first time, possibly ever, that it moves faster than display connector technologies available.

DisplayPort 1.2 can't' do 5K, and we already have 5K, and I am sure if we had DisplayPort supporting this, we would have 8K displays being released. Expensive for sure, but regardless, it will be available, and obviously drop in price.

So it is really hard to judge. And if you play the waiting game, well, it will always be cheaper.
