So i want to get another graphics card, my current card is an evga gtx770 256bit and i want to buy the same card by the same company, there just different models, is that okay, will i run into any problems? Also i have never put to cards in sli before or even had 2 cards at once any tips! Sorry for the multiple questions but i have one more will two gtx770's be better than going with one gtx980?

i beleive one 980 would be better, if you are going to sli they dont have to be the EXACT same model or brand, whichever one has a slower clockrate / ram however is what it will use.. if one card is at 1200mhz and one at 1100mhz both will run at 1100mhz

As long as they are both GTX770s they'll SLI, doesn't need to be the exact same models (looks better though). However both cards will run at the LOWEST CARD'S SPECS. If you combine a 2GB GTX770 and a 4GB GTX770, both cards will run at 2GB. So if you only have a 2GB vram version, don't bother buying a 4GB card.

looking at your build

I will hold off buying a second GTX770

the FX even with 8 cores and heavily OC is not good at supplying data to the GPUs

suggest going for a single GTX970

I agree with Dragoon, a GTX770 is the highest end card I would pair with an FX8.  Anything higher end then that, and your CPU isn't capable of powering it to the max.

Oh okay thanks for your answer and to everybody elses, appreciate the help! :)

no problem

as far as most here will suggest is going for single GPU over running dual GPUs unless you are aiming for high res Ultra graphics gaming

the GTX970 will let you run any games at 1080 Ultra and maybe even 1440 if you could fine tune the graphics settings

Yeah i'm planning on buying a 1440p monitor and i would like to be able to play the latest games at high/ultra around 60fps, also my current card gets pretty hot, so any recommendations on a card with descent cooling and can give me the performance i'm looking for, is appreciated!

hmm I say go for the GTX970 first

see if you can game without any FPS dips

if you find you can't hit the 60fps limit with the new GPU

you might need to go for the much recent i5 4690K and Z97 mobo as SLi with your current system is out of the question

The Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX970 is so far the best GPU in the market followed by Asus Strix

Two 970s sli

read what i have posted

she got a FX 8350 build

even she gets dual 970s, she will not get the best gaming experience when the CPU cannot feed the 2 powerful GPUs

Yeah i don't really want to replace the cpu, because then i would have to replace the motherboard too! What's wrong with my cpu though i thought it was pretty good?

the FX was good a few years back but its now a really outdated platform

and now games seems to run better on Intel which has been strong with single treaded performance

just for extra info

the Athlon X4 860K which is based off the A10-7850K die when OC to 4.6GHz using AIO watercooling is now even faster than a FX 8320 at 4GHz

and the 860K is a quad core which beat a 8 core in processing power and single tread performance

Lol I read it but then read best gpu 1440p and put sli 970s without even thinking.

yeah I would go with a new cpu and mobo first and then wait for amds 3xx series

@AliceNoel

maybe you can hit us with a budget you could afford

we might be able to figure out a balanced combo or solution so that you can get maximum gaming performance.

you def have a lot of good parts in your PC

so it a matter of just swapping out the CPU and mobo with Intel CPU and a Z series mobo for SLi support

if you sell your CPU, mobo and GTX770 together

you might be able to offset the cost of the new CPU, mobo and GPU

cheers

Hmm don't know why i didn't think of selling my parts, that's actually a really good idea, if i sell my cpu, motherboard and graphics card and add it with the money i have, my budget would probably be around $800!

800 dollars is enough to fund a new CPU,mobo and GPU

2 770s will theoreticly outperform a 980, not by a lot though. And in real world performance and with sli scaling, they'll be about equal.

Dual 770 performance exceed the 780Ti in the perfect world, but the FX8350 bottlenecks a single 780/Ti and 290/x. Adding a second gpu will make the bottleneck much worse. Which is why i suggest getting the i5 4690k and z97 board along with a single GTX970.

The combo i suggested so far is a great combo. With the option to add another GTX970 later when you have the budget. Dual GTX970 on the i5 4690k is the best combo for 1440p Ultra gaming.
