H110 vs. X61

Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

Money is not an issue here :) I contacted Corsair about this, I have two options - either to send the whole cooler and they will send me a new one, plus I have to pay shipment, which is around 25-30€ and I will be without a cooler for the whole duration of the RMA.... or I can order an express RMA, they will firstly send me a new cooler, but will need my credit card number and will withdraw the cost for it as insurance, and I will then within 10 days return the defective cooler, still at my expenses. Kinda strange also, that they sell backplates for almost all AIO coolers on their site, but not the H110 and I have to go through this :(

How about you buy the X61 to have a brand new and updated cooler design (with no PC downtime :)) then RMA the H110 (not express RMA) so that when you get the new one you can then sell it for part of the original cost.

This way you take advantage of the RMA, you get to keep your PC running without having it down for days, and you get some of the money you spend on the X61 back by selling the H110 :)

Hey all,

so at the moment I am doing a build (link in sig) and have a question. The CPU will be the i7-4790K and I plan to OC... as for the cooler, right now I have the Corsair H110, BUT... after almost two years, I am thinking of replacing it... why, you ask? When I changed my mobo a while back, I had to pull off the backplate, and the adhesive tapes were pretty stuck and I had to cut them off, plus one other thing, those tiny screw holes on the backplate are loose and I cant tighten the screws properly and am worried about temps. I was wondering to get a new cooler, and since my new case will be the NZXT H440 ,I was thinking about the Kraken X61.

Long story short, should I stick with the H110 and probably RMA it and be without a cooler for two weeks at best (I dont have a spare cooler), or should I get the X61? :)

Thoughts? Recommendations?

Thanks, cheers

You don't need those adhesive tapes. Those are just to make the installation process easier, they are absolutely unnecessary.

Also you should just buy a pair of needle nose pliers. Every PC owner should have some. You can use those to hold the nuts on the backplate while you put in the screws. (unless you mean the screw holes on the backplate are stripped?)

I highlighted the screw holes (random pic from web) I am talking about - the thing is, that the plastic "holes" these things click into are worn and the screw holes keep overspining, hope I explained correctly.

Oh I see.

Well if you have a spare $150, the kraken x61 would perform a little better while being quieter, plus it has a variable speed pump.

If you dont want to spend $150 you can try to RMA your H110 but you might need to pay for shipping, not sure how much that would cost.
