Hey guys,

Ive been planning on building a gaming PC, but keep running around in circles.

This would be my first gaming pc, mostly for gaming, web surfing and some light 3D rendering.

I want to spend around $800. Im most confused by the MB and GPU.

What would be an acceptable MB to use in a budget build?

And in terms of GPUs, Im looking for something that would give decent FPS @ 1080p. No need for 4K capabilities any time soon.

This would be within my budget, but would the GPU be enough or would I need to look at something better?

http://www.evetech.co.za/Computer-systems/intel-core-i5-quad-core-gtx-750-dx11-custom-built-gaming-pc-238.aspx

Im from South Africa, so all parts cost more this side, sometimes quite substantially   :(

Im open to advice and all help is welcome.

The build can be AMD or Intel.

Only looking to build the tower, as I have all the other peripherals (incl OS)

Thanks for all the reply's.

Is there performance difference between the r9 270 and the r9 280X worth the extra money? Or would the 270 be enough?

There is difference ant it should be up to you if you want more performance. Will you buy components online or in shop? If in shop you should ask them to update bios on motherboard so you could use that cpu.

I think the 4590 i5 is a bit overkill if you put it next to a 270x

I recently build a pc with a 4570 i5 and a r9 280 and I still feel it isn't quite right. In my opinion your processor would be best balanced by a 285, 280x or 290.

For the money on that psu you can probably get a 550w gold certified seasonic, it's better in my opinion.

consider upgrading to 16gb's later on, and get an ssd eventually :)

Thanks for the info :)

Ill look into a 280X, I think its about $50 more than the 270X on my side of the planet...

Would I not need a 650w for either a 270 or 280X?

It's worth the extra 50 dollars :)

for a 270, 270x, 280, 285, a 550w is enough. For a 280x.... I'd say 580w, but 550w may suffice too.

R9-280X it is then B)

Based on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqThn3C-zg4 (oh yeah, thats right.. I Linus video) and this http://coolermaster.outervision.com/PSUEngine2 , I would only need around 470watts. So it would seem a 550w would suffice  :)
