If you could somehow optimize folding more so that regardless of what the fold entails, it can always go flatout 100% on the resources it's given...

...then it could become an awesome benchmark.

It would be a good enough benchmark anyways.

I approve.

Sig under construction.

ATM im validating my GPU OC but this would also be good for temp benchmarks because it lights my i7 up on stock heatsink, getting my x61 today though.

It's bad practice to use live data as your experimental toy.

You will just wreck/dump wu's unnecessarily, not to mention

you have to complete a wu and send it for it to actually be

worth anything. The disadvantage would likely outweigh the

small gain.

Folding has their own recommendations for stress testing

software that acts similar to folding, if you want to increase

the chance  of your overclock being stable in fah, before folding

full throttle.

Folding typically doesn't respond well to OC's, so that in of itself wouldn't make it very good for stress testing OC settings. It would be expected to fail.

Now, Folding also using specific functions of say the GPU, where a x1 slot works fine. It doesn't need much bandwidth. However, a x1 won't work fine for games, so a more realistic testing solution should be used.
