Hi all,

I've always wondered why manufacturers made keyboard and mouse with USB cable.

I mean there are specific type of port for those 2 (no idea what its called), so why USB?

Is it just for the convenience of Laptop users or is there some kind of performance improvement?

Thanks in advance =P

PS/2

Oh, and PS/2 only supports keyboard/mouse functions. Using USB allows to make keyboards with backlight or with integrated USB hubs.

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

It's called PS/2.

It is about twice the size of a USB port, even worse to plug in and does not support hot-plug. So USB seems like a straight upgrade.

haha, i see.

Call me old fashioned but it seem like a waste of USB slot to me, though :P

So basically, gaming companies like Razor and Corsair are no longer producing PS/2 keyboard and mouse?

That would be bad as i don't have any more USB slot open at the back (not counting the 3.0s)

Some keyboards are moving on to USB 3.0 to power backlights and such, and others still use PS/2 AFAIK in the event your USB ports fail and you need to access your BIOS.

I think its because USB provides more power for backlighting.

One day PS/2 will go away but thats gonna take hell of a time because businesses never change their tech unless they are forced... So maybe in 20 years.

Universal Media Bus is supposed to work with everything, it's a standard in the industry.

U*S*B means Universal Serial Bus but you get what I mean.

Manufacturers use USB as PS/2 is kinda old now. As far as I know, there's no advantage to using PS/2 mice over USB mice. Keyboards on PS/2 allow for faster response and for more than 6 keypresses (or something along these lines).

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
