Here is my proposed plan. I would like to primarily game with this rig. I don't care for max graphics etc, however I would like to venture above the "minimal" setting.

I would like to be able to record some games for my own collection too, mainly making highlight reels for friends and myself.

I don't plan on doing any extensive video editing or production, streaming isn't a major for me either.

The games I mainly play are LoL, CS:GO and The Witcher 2. I currently play LoL at max, CS:GO and the Witcher at minimum.

I'd like to be able to play more steam games close to medium as I'm keen on purchasing The Division and The Witcher 3.

Of course Online play will vary, but my focus is the single-player aspect.

My current set-up can be found on my pageI will be looking to utilize my:

  • PSU - Antec VP700P
  • GPU - Sapphire Radeon HD7770 1GHz Edition
  • RAM - Crucial 4GB 1600mHz DDR3 UDIMM (x2)
  • CD/DVD Drive - Generic, it works fine
  • Storage - WD Caviar Blue 500GB

What I would to add/replace are the following:

  • Case, changing to: Zalman Z3 Plus
  • Cooling, changing to: Hyper 212 EVO (or any other alternative at a similar price)
  • CPU, changing to: Intel 4690K (unless there are better alternatives. I'm no fanboy of either side so I'm open to suggestion)
  • Mobo, changed to: To be specified with CPU

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Note: I've formatted my writing this way as I hate reading right across the screen on forums.. You don't have to do the same,

it's just something I do.

Budget?

Budget is around $450-$550 NZD thanks.

An i5 4690K with a HD7770 ? Good luck with that.

Also why do you want to change the cooler ?

Currently the cooler isn't cooling my A8-6600k very well at stock clock (hovering around 50-60 degrees celsius at low loads). The HD7770's sticking around until I can find a decent 760 that can ship to NZ off ebay (if you live in NZ you'd know shits ridiculously priced here). Thanks.

Maybe get the G3258 with a Z97 Mobo.  I would strongly recommend upgrading your GPU; chances are that is the cause of your gaming troubles.

I've been considering this option recently, but I've come here to source any other suggestions. Thanks

I was looking at the G3258 and Athlon x4 ***K's but what I cant seem to find are regular temperatures onces people have overclocked them? I see many people getting 4.5ghz~ on the G3258 and only share temperatures off of 1080p etc gaming (~80 celcius).

I'm not too keen on a oven next to my feet

A midway would be a Z97 board with a I5-4460 and spend the rest on a GPU. Some games stop supporting the dual core with no HT and this might be dangerous for the future. It is better to get a I3 with HT then a G3258, like this: http://ark.intel.com/nl/products/77480/Intel-Core-i3-4130-Processor-3M-Cache-3_40-GHz.

Other option is a AMD CPU and then be able to spend more on the GPU. It is mostly a GPU problem then a CPU problem when gaming.
