I'm thinking of buying two 1080p monitors, but I'm worried that they won't last long as 1440p and 4k are becoming more common.

Would you recommend buying two 1080p monitors, or one 4k monitor?

why not 2 1440p monitors?

How much do you think they will be, and how long?

Can't really say for sure, they haven't released a lot of information. It's a 2015 model though so I think it would come out this month, since products with listed "model years" come out the previous year. It'll probably be around $400-500 I would think.. The Dell U2715H is about $600 USD and it's the bigger version of it.

Yeah, 1440 would look great on games. I'm waiting for the Dell U2515H is come out myself. They just got released in Hong Kong I believe, . It's a 25" 1440 screen.

/edit. can't find confirmation if they were indeed released in Hong Kong or not.

Ah yeah, I saw that here —> https://pcmonitors.info/dell/dell-u2515h-with-25-inch-2560-x-1440-panel/.

That's almost 120 PPI at that size. Nice! B)

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

Ah nice, a source! I couldn't remember where I read about it haha. I think 25" 1440 is the way to go for me. The 27" might be a little too big for me to be honest. I almost bought the Dell U2715H on Black Friday since it was around $500 or so.

Is 1440p even worth it though, considering 4k is getting more affordable?

For now, I think they're worth it. 4K isn't the greatest now, maybe next year. There are still some scaling issues and we don't really have the hardware that can push it to its limits.

I bought into 4k on Black Friday. I am never going back. My 21.5" 1080p monitor beside my 28" Samsung U28D590D 4k actually bugs me now!

The 4k is great for productivity - so much screen real estate to work with. I've loved it, from just browsing the web to video editting. Some people have issues with the scaling and text being so small, but I actually prefer that. Websites that I use constantly and read a lot on I just hold Ctrl and use the mouse scroll wheel to adjust text as required. Too easy.

Even gaming it's not nearly as bad as people think. I'm running a 2x GTX 760 2GB SLI setup. I'm able to run games on max settings at around 30 fps/4k (still have a bunch of games to test, but Arma 3 runs nice). I've been dropping my playing resolution to 1440p for playing while recording, and even that looks great.

With 1440p/4k monitors being on par price wise often now, I don't see why you'd really look at 1440p monitors (unless you had the need like IPS for colours, which are available cheaper in 1440p than 4k). Sure, current hardware struggles to throw games out at 4k/60+ FPS, but if you hit a game that struggles at 4k you can always turn it down to 1440p and keep on playing.

I personally would skip 1440p unless you're look at a specific monitor, such as the ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q. I was looking at that monitor, but when I had the chance to get into 4k for less than half the price I took it. The Swift here (Canada) is $899 + taxes, while I paid $430 + taxes for my 4k. No brainer there.

Never say it's not broken. Everything is broken. Why? Because everything needs MOAR POWA!

Gaming, as I said. Haven't bought the parts yet but CPU is most probably going to be an i5 4690k and 8GB RAM.

Paired with a 970, you could getaway with that for 4k gaming. I do. I've played TF2, Batman Arkham Origins, DotA, Civ 5, South Park Stick of Truth, Spore, Civ V and BF4 at max. It's been playable, I haven't benchmarked anything and my monitor is capped at 60 hz but it feels real smooth and the eye candy is nice.

My system is:

  • CPU Intel i7 4790k
  • Motherboard Asus Z97 Pro Wifi AC
  • RAM Corsair Vengeance Pro 2133 Mhz 2x8gb
  • GPU Gigabyte G1 Gaming 970
  • Case Rosewill Rise Glow
  • Storage Toshiba 128 GB HDTS212XZSWA
  • PSU EVGA G2 850
  • Display(s) Samsung UN55HU6950 55-Inch 4K
  • Cooling Coolermaster Nepton 280L
  • Keyboard Dell USB Keyboard
  • Mouse Generic 1000-3200 DPI Mouse
  • Sound Sound Blaster Evo ZX
  • Operating System Windows 8.1

Edit: I ran the benchmark on Batman once actually, and got something like 89 fps on the screen number.

Play the greatest game ever. TF2. http://www.teamfortress.com/

Wow, the 970 performs a lot better than I thought. I'm thinking of getting SLI 970s now, and then next year getting a 4K monitor when the prices come down and there's more of a variety. Thanks for the info man.

Id recommend two 1440p monitors myself.

Never underestimate the convenience of a second monitor; game stats, a movie/show while gaming, maps, etc..

Combined with how hard your pc would work to make 4k look good? 1440p is most likely fine.

I have two 1080 HP 27"bw IPS panels that im sure most would shame me for having (spent my big bucks on my home theater plasma tv instead),

but they look incredible for the price and are big enough for my needs. I have never considered going 4k or 1440p since

I wont notice the difference unless I have a 4k screen sitting here to compare it to, so y not be happy for $300 for a pair??

Plus I can run most games on high or ultra at 1080p, and as long as my friends dont upgrade their systems to be better than mine

anytime soon, I am perfectly happy staying with that setup lmao.

All in all,

Not worth the extra moolah for the monitor and supporting tech :/

IMO

Your saving yourself money by buying a 4k monitor now. I just picked up a Samsung 28" 4k monitor and it great. As soon as 4k gets bigger prices will rise.

What makes you think that? As technology becomes more readily available prices will go down. Look at how much LED TVs cost even 2 years ago,

now you can pick them up for peanuts...

You will almost NEVER save money buying into Technology as soon as it comes out and is "rare". Another example, OLED TV's were $10,000 a few months back,

and have already dropped thousands of dollars. Do you think those original buyers saved themselves money by buying in early?

Honestly,

I'm not trying to insult you, but your comment is completely wrong and could lead other forum members here to waste their money.

if you have backing facts that show an increase in 4K prices on the horizon please share so I can invest in some 4k while low and sell high,

otherwise keep your misinformed opinions, however well intended they may be,  to yourself.

I recommend 4k. Aliasing on text and game graphics will be a thing of the past. Looking back at my 1080p monitor it looks blurry and pales in comparison to my pb287q.
