I have msi 990FXA-GD65 motherboard, paired with Fx 6300. 

 

My stable OC for this thing is 4.4 GHz @ 1.34v (in bios). Previously i cant go 4.5GHz due cpu temp too high because in my h60's radiator,  only got 1 fan that exhaust the heat from the case. After i added 1 case fan to the radiator so the config is [outside] pulling fan <-- radiator <-- pushing fan [inside], the temps went down and i think i can bump it a little bit. 

 

I tried to go a bit further 4.8 GHz at 1.4v. I stress test it with IBT, very high at 20 runs. first it hangs.. Seems my vcore is not enough. So i bump it up..

-1.41xxx v, fails

-1.42xxx v, fails

-1.43xxx v, fails

-1.45xxx v...

 

When it reach that, the computer didnt hang but IBT reports that my cpu is unstable (/too high temps. Got a max celcius of 63 [cpu temps] and there is one is that already reach 3 digits.. 103 C on nortbridge. i was like omg. im about to fry the northbridge. 

 

So i set back to 4.7 GHz and at 1.40v.. IBT hangs.. meaning not enough vcore. When i bump it the vcore, 1.41xxx v, ibt again reports that my cpu is unstable/high temps. My northbridge is reaching 95 degress. 

 

My question is easy: Should i back down again? maybe 4.6? cause im a bit upset even after buying corsair h60, i wasnt able to get at least 4.7. (i think the answer is obvious lol)

I will say the MSI AMD mobo is the culprit

 

the VRMs are overheating

 

try to stick a fan onto the heat sinks or blow cool air over the heatsinks

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

What case do you have with what fan configuration?

This. Even on my old crosshair v formula z the vrms were hot.....at stock 4ghz!

You do realize they call it Intel BURN Test for a reason, yes? It's one of the most ludicrous benchmarks out there. Run Prime95 for the sake of your hardware.

i will try that.. but if it already overheat @ 103 degress, why didnt IBT give warning earlier when it reaches 95 degress as at that point it gives the same errors also?

 

Currently stress test with IBT 4.6 GHz @ 1.35v.. NB temps was 81 degree and cpu temps are 51 degree celcius. it fails at 8th run showing the same error unstable/overheating. 

I guess its not the heat that makes it up. Results run 1-7 show something like 3.328891e-002. The 8th test that fail showing different numbers. This means wrong calculation.. From my point, wrong calculation / hangs indicate too low voltage that results instability. I just modify the cpu multiplier and cpu voltage, nothing else. for ram speeds i change it down from 1600MHz to 1333MHz. and moreover, im still a green at overclocking. Any suggestion for what to do next?

my fan configuration are 2 intake from the front, 1 exhaust at he top (although i can put 2 fans, the stock case fan is so thick that in the way of the radiator at the rear so i cant put the second fan at top other than buying other case fan), and finally a radiator with push-pull configuration that moving the air from case to outside.

Try aiming a fan at it first, then check those NB temps again and post back.

yeah i know. it reallyy puts the unrealistic pressure on the cpu and produce crazy heat. Meanwhile prime95 is bit softer because at some time, there is a calculation that require a huge amount of power that produce heat and also one that require less power so the cpu temp will go down a bit. The downside of prime95 is obvious, ridicilous amount of time needed to call it perfectly stable. Minimum of 6 hours and recommended 24 hours. i guess my "impatient" is the culprit :P. But i will try prime95 tho
