Well, yet another topic and another question--or well, actually just want for input.  I'm beyond torn between the brand new R5 and the Enthoo Pro - I love the looks of both cases, the airflow, and the sound aspects in regard to the R5.  One of my questions would be in regard to the R5; with no dust cover on the top and just leaving the modu-vents in place and placing the Nepton 280l 280mm rad in the front of the case and having positive air pressure - what level of cooling would likely be had?  I know it would be the best for the CPU, but not the internals.  I am likely to run a 5930k and two gpu's in the case if I go with the R5.  I know if I go with the Enthoo Pro I'll put the rad at the top because of the dust filter and have negative airflow.  Also as a note - all fans would be noctua's in the build, so noctua's in pull for the R5 front mounted rad and a noctua at the back of the R5 to push air out of the case, and then no fans at the top so as to minimize noise and dust.   Opinions?

Enthoo Pro as it

  • looks much better (imo -- I hate seeing the psu/psu wire clutter and HDDs)
  • Is bigger (easier to grow -- custom loop)

Elaboration on this? ^^  I'm tightly torn between the two.

  • looks much better (imo -- I hate seeing the psu/psu wire clutter and HDDs)
  • Is bigger (easier to grow -- custom loop)

and as @Dicoray said, the Define series cases are abnormally wide imo.

I absolutely love building in the R4. I recommend it to all of my clients. So I'm going to have to say the R5. They're incredibly quiet, and with the Noctuas, you'll have a dead silent build with amazing cooling.

That's all I hear anywhere.  I originally was going to go for the Arc XL, but the Enthoo catched my eye and then the R5 as well and still very torn, but your vote is noted!  Might end up doing push/pull on the 280 with Noctua's just ensure there's -extra- airflow if I go with the R5.  Only downside I find with the R5 is that it is limited to ATX or a -snug- fit EATX board in it.

That is true in the bigger sense.  It could house an EATX board easy, and I likely wouldn't cover the PSU for ease of swapping stuff in and out, but it is a nice addition.  I've looked at the Primo before and loved it.. to death and the vertical PSU mounting, but the aluminum I know I would -easily- stain with my fingers and it's so hard to clean xD

Dont you think that they should make a fractal design define r5 slim which was pretty much the same case but with a little less features because it was smaller

It definitely is a snug fit, which can be pretty irritating, especially with a big rad. The Enthoo does look nice, but in my personal opinion, the minimalist design and just pure sleekness of the R5 is very appealing.

For shame

*insert rubbing finger...y'know, I don't actually know how to explain it...you...stick out your left index finger and then run your right index finger (perpendicular to your left finger) down the length of your left finger repeatedly*

Okay....back on topic....ummm....something constructive.....ummm, both are good cases it really just comes down to which you prefer visually.

I personally just use an external optical drive instead of a 5.25 bay.

Although, if I was going to buy a full tower case I would definitely go with the h630 which is everything the h440 is but bigger and with an optical drive. I would get the white version and paint all the white orange

I love my Enthoo Pro. Any probelms I've had with have been resolved. Phanteks has fantastic (Kind of a pun) customer service. Anyway, it has great cable management and the fans are quiet, it looks great overall. My only issue is the windows are shit, but can be easily replaced with something else.

My problem is my OCD, I tried doing that once and I was just constantly adjusting it so it would sit straight on the case and I was constantly moving the cable to try to get it out of view... I gave up after that experience

I don't mind the cables, but sitting straight I can understand.  I spent about an hour tinkering with my headphone stand after I built it - took apart all the wood pieces eight times until they were all perfectly centered and still adjust it on my desk daily.  I can understand the OCD xP

It went so far that I ended up taking off the rubber feet and using industrial double sided tape... which ended ruining one of my old cases

For the R5 I would do: NF-A14's in the front as intake, NF-A14's as top exhaust with the AiO and maybe a 5V or 7V one in the rear as exhaust. And if you're PSU allows it, an NF-F12 or another A14 in the bottom as intake. Should make for positive air pressure as long as rad fans are being controlled.

Enthoo Pro: Same should work, though you'll need to lose the PSU cover for the bottom fan.

as far as i can see, there is only one solution.

1) buy both cases

2) cut the cases in half so you have the top and bottom of each

3) apply duct tape

4) return the half of each case you dont want to the manufacturer and get 50% of your money back from each case

OR

4) keep cutting them down to get an ITX HTPC case.

boom. problem solved.
