hello all
starting a new PC build for games (eg. BF4) and want a cool computer in general.  In terms of cost no real budget ($US), but not trying to spend 1k on a graphics card.  Run one monitor and possibly two in the future.

New at this and would like some advice.

what I have:
MSI X99S gaming 7 intel ATX
CORSAIR AX series AX860
LG black 16x Blu-Ray BDXL (BH16NS40)
Samsung 840 Pro 256 6Gb/s SSD
Fractal Define R4 ATX Mid tower

what I'm thinking about:

Intel Core i7-5820K 6core 3.3GHz

ADATA XPG Z1 8GB (2x4) DDR4

Graphics card is a good question, thoughts?

and some cooler too.

advice/recommendations would be great.

Is the bluray drive really necessary?

Is value at all an issue or do you just have money to blow?

value is always good.  I don't want to buy something for $600 and find that $300 one works a lot better.

Also would this combination work or create more problems.

thank you for your help

thank you for your post, a lot cheeper than some of the other websites i've looked at.

What kind of difference would there be between 2Gb and 4Gb graphics card.  Im sure there are other variables but generally speaking.

You want 4 x 4GB Ram to make use of Quad channel on X99 Platform.

That is the amount of VRAM (Video Ram) the graphics card has.

The R9 290 and GTX 970 both have 4GB VRAM (which is what you should be aiming for) and are both very good cards. The 970 is more powerful, but it costs more as well.

Your current parts list works but it could be much cheaper.

Are you planning to sli/cf?

More vram helps with higher resolutions and bigger textures.

This could help:

X99 supports quad channel, but it's not a requirement. At 2 stick it's dual channel, 3 sticks triple channel, and 4 sticks quad channel.

I didn't say it was a requirement, but if you are running a platform that utilises quad channel Ram then it makes sense to use it.
