So I've been having problems with ear pain when wearing over ear headphones. I thought it was because my previous headphones didn't fit quite right and rested on the tops of my ears, but recently I acquired a pair of hyperX clouds and while they fit perfectly I still get ear pain after about an hour and a half of use. So here's my question, is this normal, or do I just have really sensitive ears?

Hm... HyperX are on ear? I don't see how over the ear can hurt ears.

You just have really sensitive ears.

Well tits. Would comfortable on ear, or IEMs possibly cause me less pain?

I've never heard of people complain about ears hurting on Hyper X, so I'm going to say that your ears are sensitive too. I don't see how over ear can hurt the ears because they don't really even touch your ears. My over ears are like that at least. Maybe IEMs will help. I don't ever see on-ears being more comfortable than a comfortable over-ear.

I think my ears might stick out too much and the drivers push on them? That's the only thing I can think of.

you need to give your ears a couple weeks of rest
having combined on ears with Toques and beanies over my ears made them extremely sensitive as of late, so much so, that dt770's and ad700's would be uncomfortable somehow. but after letting them rest they've been able to tolerate more

Get the tackstar HI 2050 and attach a mic to it..it's an open headphone that costs 40$ and rivals the sound of q701 quincy jones headphone..

not really about the sound, did you read the topic.

The tackstar is shaped like a ear, same as the hyperx clouds, Akg´s are just like huge round tires.

I think this and the fact that the akg´s are just oversized as it gets,it´ll will fit everyone.

I have same headphones. While using leather ear pads provided, my ears got hot and sweaty. The left ear started paining for some reason(happened two times so I switched it with other ear pads).
Now it's fine. The ears fit fine on both pads but don't know why this happened.

Also if you set it too loosely on your head they press against your temple a little tightly which might cause headaches if you are sensitive like me.

I actually was using the velvet ones.

The headache I got with the velvet ones. No ear pain though.

I only got the ear pain(and I have relatively big ears) with the velvet ones when I put the headband a little front of my head when the ear cups pulled at the bottom part of my ears a bit. That pained a lot.

Also you don't have any "wisdom tooth" growing do you? I kind of noticed those things well after they pierced the skin :P had random ear pains but more noticeable during time of using headphones.

Naw I've had my wisdom teeth out already. Also maybe I need to lower them a bit? Shall try.

I would recommend trying another pair of over ear headphones. I have really sensitive ears too(couldn't wear sennheiser momentum at all for more than 30 mins). Try HD598 or Fidelio x1 or x2. Those are headphones that I have tried that has the best comfort period. If those bother you after wearing for hours than you might be out of options :(
