I have my ssd and hard drive both powered and connected however my computer is not picking up the hard drive. Any suggestions?

Check the connection to your hard drive from the mobo (the sata cable) and if it refuses to work, try another sata port.

Have you checked BIOS to see how and if the drives is recognized there? Also, can you see the drive in device manager or disk management? Can you hear the drive spin? Does it make any strange sounds (grinding, clicking? What drive do you have?
You can try unplugging it, running your system and then plugging it in to see if your build would recognize it.
As @007agentHP suggested, check your connections and try another SATA port. 
You can also try the drive on another computer or plug it in externally with a docking station, enclosure or a simple SATA to USB cable.
