Hyper 212 evo like everyone says

Well there are two options if you want to go air cooled

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO-$28.99 best budget cooler out there

Noctua NH-D15-$92.30 the best air cooler you can get out performs most all in one water cooling units.

Hyper 212 Evo is a good choice if you dont wana spend heaps

I'm in a similar pickle, but want to build in the Bitfenix Pandora that only supports coolers up to 134mm high (which is much less than the 212 Evo and Noctua NH-D14/15)

What would you guys recommend if I wanted to stay with air, or should I go the AIO route?

a radiator that that is square-ish in shape, supports either 120mm or 140mm fans   1 fan on one side and potentially 1 fan on the other,

for the price you will pay for one of those.....take the corsair h60 for example......you would be better off getting a " high quality " air cooler and saving some money.

CPU: i7 4790k OC'd @ 4.6 ghz COOLER: Corsair H105 (SP 120mm Quiet Edition Fans) MOBO: ASRock Z97 Extreme 6 RAM: Kingston Hyper Fury 16GB (2x8) 1866mhz

so given the price of h60 which one do you recommend in terms of air cooler

look at some noctua low profile coolers

Only if you have the cash to sink into a 240mm AIO since the performance of the 120mm ones is way less than the air coolers if you are on a tight budget id suggest looking into a different case maybe the Fractal Design Define R4 which is cheaper right now than the case you mentioned and supports the height of the air coolers

well the " most famous " air cooler is the hyper 212 evo, and it works better than you think it would....its like $30 usa , if you wanna spend around $50 or 60 , i would say the  Noctua nh-u12s
