GTX 970 vS. R9 290X

Go to solution Solved by i_build_nanosuits,

If I theoretically wanted to go for a 980, and (a big) maybe wanted to one day sli it, would the 750 be ok or cutting it to close?

yes it's fine for GTX980 SLI as well.

The Supernova G2 750W is top notch PSU it can handle those loads easily.

Started to build my rig now that all the deals are happening. What are your thoughts on either of these cards?

in the future I'll be looking to SLI/Crossfire/ whatever AMDs doing. A friend suggested that I should go for the 970 because of the new architecture. I looked up benchmarks on both cards and they seem relatively the same.

I heard the 290x is better for higher resolutions than 1080p. So if you plan on playing on 1080p then just get a 970. It's also newer, cooler, and more power effecient.

Because of power consumption and heat, I'd go for the 970, whether that's worth $75 to you IDK though

Get a 970 because it's much more power efficient and supports things like G-syc, shadowplay, in-home streaming, etc.

RIP in pepperonis m8s

EVGA supernova 750wG2 and the case is to be decided.

Well, 750w isn't really 'ideal' for 290x XFIRE, so...

Go with the 970. I wouldn't even consider crossfiring cards anymore unless there are some significant improvements to stability and quality when gaming.

if you plan on using dual graphics cards, get the GTX970...it's worth the extra cost.

If I wanted to SLI 970, would there be enough power? I was told by two people there would be power? I was told by 2 people it would but a third is always appreciated.

yes 750W G2 is plenty for dual GTX970 config...it's cutting it close for dual 290X though.

A system with SLI 980s can run on a 650w psu and still have some overclocking headroom.
